Folding lawn chairs

Folding lawn chairs - 06/27/23 01:16 AM

I'm on my 3rd pair of folding bag lawn chairs for use at car shows/cruises and they both just broke while the wife and I were on vacation. On all three pair the cheap plastic hinges used on the joints broke. I will admit I haven't spent a lot of money on any of them but I am to the point now that I want to invest in a quality pair that will last. Can anyone here recommend a brand of chair that is durable as well as comfortable? I'd like them to at least have cupholders if not a small fold up side table as well as rigid arm rests.

Bought this for camping and so far so good, it replaced the typical big box store droopy back breaker folding chair I bought a few years ago. Make sure the seating area is flat, if its a U shape you'll hate the chair....and the crappy ones are all U shape / droopy

Looks like a nice chair.

Where is it from? I can't make out the label on it.

Thank you,

Mike.

My father was a tall man, he bought one from Cabellas or Bass Pro, that actually sat you way up off the ground so instead of standing up to get up, you kind of stepped down. He sat in that almost every day for years (had back surgery) so it must have been comfortable. It checked all the boxes you are looking for.

I know exactly what you mean. Very frustrating to just keep tossing them in the garbage.

I bought a couple of these. On my second year with them and so far, so good.

I see they also came out with a super-duper heavy version now. Have not seen this one yet.

I bought a pair of the Harbor Freight chairs a few years ago after seeing them at a cruise night , great chairs and no problems ! They fold and fit well behind the seat of my standard cab D150.

I have some of the GCI chairs as well. Definitely more comfortable and last longer that the usual wal-mart junk.

they even make a model with two pistons on the back legs that allow them to "rock"

My wife has that one....very sturdy and comfortable. They also make a bag style with the shocks which folds up smaller if space is an issue. Spent the weekend in the Twin Cities at the Back to the Fifties show.....I'll guess 50% of the group I was with bought those "bag" style rockers with the shocks. It was a hot seller for sure

Be careful who you order from on the internet. I ordered two from somewhere I'd never heard of because it looked like a smokin' deal. They called them rockers. The pics showed those chairs with the shocks in the back. What I got was 2 hemorrhoid cushions. Thankfully, I was able to reverse the charges thru my CC company. I never heard a word from the vendor.

All of those chairs have weight limits. The closer you are to the weight limit, the shorter their life is. The "big people" chairs have larger diameter tubing and better plastic joints. I'm at 270ish, I won't buy any chain rated at under 400 lbs. Those 300lbs chairs only last me a year or two.

They also need to be sitting level and have all 4 legs flat on the ground. Most of the motion chairs have very low weight limits. If it says its rated at 250lbs, you better believe that means no more then 250lbs, and if its moving, add 50lbs or more to your weight. We bought a pair of those swing chairs rated at 350lbs. Mine failed the 1st time I used it. The one my wife uses is pretty iffy, and she is under 150lbs, she hasn't used it much at all lately. Those absolutely need to sit level with all the "feet" flat on the ground. Don't believe the ads that say they work on unlevel ground.
