Emerald Ash borer ?

Emerald Ash borer ? - 06/08/23 01:55 AM

have any of you dealt with the above gift from China??? They are approaching our area and i have 3 Ash trees I'd like to keep. After checking with a couple of local tree people they'll be firewood. 150 a tree with a 12" trunk with the price 🤑💲💲💲💲🤑 up from there. My smallest is 72" in circumference. OH BTW, no guarantees and the treatment has to be repeated every 1-2 years down
There are do it yourself solutions but looking for any experiences feedback etc.

TIA beer

We lost all our ash trees, in fact the last two are leaning up against my house and need to be cut down but it is next to the power lines and even the tree cutters in the area won't touch them... mad

Pests from China have killed off the American Chestnut and now the Ash trees.

They do not seem to have an insecticide that lasts more than a short time.

Brother in law works for parks and rec, removing destroyed ash tress is a full time job for them there, beside other responsibilities.

Ash used to be the best wood for arrows.

I wonder if the ash wood is finding a market?

Your power company might take them down for you.

Pretty much wiped out NYS Ash trees as well... our Pine trees have a Pine Beadle infestation here as well

A local well established tree company happened to be in the hood today so the wife asked him to stop by. He did, said the 3 trees we were concerned about are fine with no sign of infestation.
Asked him how much to treat them, 500 for all 3 and their treatment is good for 3 years. Asked him how successful they've been and he said about 90-95% so I said do it. Time will tell. One more thing off my list of 💩 to do.
Now onto the next. I thought retirement was supposed to be easy whistling

I have lost about 50 ash trees off my 20 acres. Nothing you can really do.
Let's just hope that the bugs do not move onto another species when all the ash are gone.

Once they are dead they are considered much more dangerous as they are unsafe to climb. I had an 80 footer brought down last year that was alive and well for that very reason. It was in a very precarious spot that would have caused building damage. I did not feel like rolling the dice on it. The rest are not going to be a problem to drop or wait until they drop themselves. beer
Thanks for all the responses.
I either flushed 500.00 away today or saved the trees. Time will tell
Thanks again beer

Ihave a tree farm near the Ohio river. Harvesting 200 acres this month. Surprised to learn we had some ash still alive. My home place , the ash are all gone, and what is left has gotten too punky to even use as firewood. I have an outdoor furnace. Did a harvest at the home farm last year, and the forester dropped a cou0le large standing dead ash before he left.

Of the rotted stuff, I managed to get a Rick 9f firewood. It is great for that. Burns hot and little ash left over. The neighbor did a heavy harvest a couple years ago, and China bought his good ash, and had it hauled out at full length. No milling or cutting to twelve foot logs. Just load into containers and ship.

May have a significant impact on baseball bats, too. If you want to learn about the impact of tree loss, research the American Chestnut. The impact on the industry, and Appalachian families was devastating.
