Heres the link to the whole sordid mess

Even the various DMVs can't be depended on to follow procedure. Also can't believe the judge was so timid in the final hearing.

Great story. It is crazy that stolen vehicle records were purged after just 4 years.

I am happy it worked out for her and she got her car back.

Oh yeah, Indiana DMV will REISSUE a stolen license plate number after three years. A stolen car is entered in to the system and the plate also.
Some dumb kid was trying to hide from a deputy- at the same time I was being sworn in to office- He runs the plate and it returns stolen and the color car matches too as be stolen.

The kid was late to basketball practice at the high school, so for some reason he thought the deputy would stop him, so he is dodging around streets. Deputy runs plate and believes car is stolen. Felony stop in the high school parking lot.

All because BMV wants to reissue previous plate numbers.
