RAM upper management

RAM upper management - 03/28/23 02:27 PM

Just curious if someone on here knows someone who has a roll in upper management at Ram. I've been trying to order a 3500 mega cab diesel since September. Problem is I want it painted Hydro blue. Back in September I was told the color would be available after the first of the year. The color is available now, but only on the Power Wagons and the Rebels which are built at the same plant. Ram continues to refuse to paint a SOLD truck, a, available color. I have tried a couple of dealerships. I have written Auburn Hills 35 letters, sent over 40 emails regarding this. Ram has responded to two emails, the first was back in September and second was in February. I was informed by both dealers that this request is simple, just need a manager to sign off on it. Does anyone have a connection at Ram? I am mind boggled that Ram doesn't what to sell me a truck. In retail business, a sale is a sale. Back in 2009 Chrysler begged us for money to keep the doors open. How quickly they have forgotten.

Forget it. They are not going to paint one truck. Once the color is set for production for that model you will get it. Its all in the marketing and that wont change for one order. Exception can be in fleet orders,

According to the following press release from Stellantis (dated September 1, 2022) - Hydro Blue is listed as an available exterior colour for the 2023 Ram Heavy Duty.

https://media.stellantisnorthamerica.com/newsrelease.do?id=24053&mid=

I checked the ramtrucks.com website. Hydro Blue is not listed as an available colour for the Ram 3500.

Expecting any car company to paint one vehicle a specific color until they schedule that color production run is pretty crazy, to tell you the truth. These days the vehicles are dipped, not sprayed. They are not going to change the color in the dip tank for a single vehicle, its not economically possible. Your special order colored truck might be the 1st one they do that color, but its going to wait until they are ready to paint however many they can paint on one batch through the tank. Order 20 trucks the same color, maybe they will move that color up a little sooner on the schedule. It is also entirely possible the color you want isn't available at this point yet. Its going to be hard to paint something when the color isn't available yet.

The current owner of Chrysler Corporation is not the same company that owned it back in 2009. What happened back then is of no concern of this current company. The year is 2023, nothing is the same as it was as recent as 2020. Get used to it!

35 letters and 40 emails! eek Holy c**p you must really like blue!

A sale is not a sale if you lose money on it--it's charity. The cost and disruption to switch over the line to paint one special order truck is more than they will make on the truck. These guys aren't in business to lose money.

Post-COVID OEMs have figured out it's better to keep the lots empty and make a premium on each vehicle, rather than keeping the lots full of unsold inventory and have to give a bunch of incentives and discounts to get rid of them. That's the way things are right now. It's not 1970 anymore.

A few of you understand. There is no line interruption, that's been conformed. It's as simple as telling the robot to paint it, that's been conformed. Those of you who own a body shop or work as a painter in a shop understand paint codes and variances. It comes down to some pencil neck choosing what colors they feel look best on a certain model. I even offered to pay in full before it's built. When I ordered my 2022 Ram, I should of ordered a mega cab instead of a crew cab. Live and learn, at the end of the day, the money is still in my pocket and not theirs.

Believe me they will not do it. My advice get over it and buy something else if it makes you feel better.

What you don't seem to understand is that if the assembly plant doesn't have the color available, you're not going to get it.

Some of the colors have been hard for the assembly plants to actually get which is a vendor issue.
They don't make the paint in the plant, they only spray it mostly by robots.
If the vendor doesn't have that exact mix in the formula available right now, it's not going to be available on a vehicle.
I know that has been a problem for the last several years.

Myth.

Ram dealer here has 450 trucks on the lot all collecting dust, and every other dealer I drive by is bursting at the seams with inventory as well.

If my memory serves me correct. the mega cab is built in the Saltillo assembly plant in Mexico. I don't recall it launching that body type at warren truck. if its coming out of Mexico you might as well pick another color or get ready to pay someone a large amount for this favor. I wish you luck.

I did the Mega cab launch down there, it was a major pain in the butt to get it completed and them to take final possession of the lines.

Where is this? My buddy is in fleet sales at a big dealer selling Ram, Ford and GM and he's dying to find inventory. He's been doing it over 30+ years and has never seen it like this!

If I was running that plant there's NO WAY I'm interrupting that (2500-series) line for one (3500-series) customer, or the 3500-series line to paint your truck.
Not trying to sound like a "d!ck" but that order (I assume) isn't worth disrupting their line over (IMO).
I sincerely hope you get it though, and if you do, please let us know how you made it work.

I hope you can get the truck and color you desire ! Ram is pretty strange with what color you can get on what size , model and trim package . Back in 2021 I had a 1500 Classic Hemi 4x4 short bed / regular cab on order , I really wanted green as its my favorite color I asked the dealer and they inquired with the local Ram manufacture rep if I could special order in a green I was told no I couldn't . The green was only available on an 8 ft bed truck and not a short bed ! After waiting 5 months for the ordered truck to arrive and numerous emails and calls to the rep and dealer its still wasn't due for another month. A quad cab came in with the options I wanted including the 3.92 sure grip rear so I bought it instead . BTW its not green ( wish it was ) but a nice dark blue.... R.I.P. Mr P Body
