Coolest car reveal I've ever seen, a freaking helicopter and it did look sketchy at times because it was so windy.

Wow it actually ran that!!?? I thought it was another myth ET like the demons 9.65 that nobody could replicate. I did see a cage in that car

Re: Dodge Demon 170 reveal - 03/21/23 12:49 PM

I suspect it did not really run that there. I would bet the time was previously certified by NHRA and they put it up on the screen as such. The guy that drove the car did not look like he was really a driver, but was part of the Stelantis engineering group, so bet it was all pre-staged.

Re: Dodge Demon 170 reveal - 03/21/23 01:27 PM

They really tried to do too much and it took some of the luster off the launch. Why they chose to have the announcer on the track during the pre pass prep is beyond me. Did they not do any kind of run through on that?

And I do have to take issue with his statement that they built this for 'us'. None of us will be able to get our hands on one. Any word on pricing and volume?

Still though, that is one COOL car! I like the big rear tires and flairs while keeping the fronts narrower. Kind of a 70s stance. I think it's the best looking Challenger yet.

This is so much fun! What a shame it's all coming to an end.

This AP article says it will have a run of up to 3300 units at a cost of $96,666 (get it?) each.

correct - the exact time & MPH was leaked on-line before the actual run at the reveal

Good Luck to the 3,000+ people that get them. Sad to see the end of Mopar muscle....

Re: Dodge Demon 170 reveal - 03/21/23 03:15 PM

So, after ADM and taxes and such, they will be well north of $100k. I don't see many being discounted. Do you?

But, I would think it would be safe to say that this would be one solid bet to appreciate in value. I think I'll ask the wife to move some things around and ....................... never mind.

Re: Dodge Demon 170 reveal - 03/21/23 03:45 PM

A few guys claim to be getting them at MSRP. My dealer took 'bids' for the ADM. Right now, around $70K ADM...so, nearing $200K with any options.

The dealer I work at allocated one. I hear they’ve had phone offers of 50k over sticker.

Why not use the Pitch-Fork Demon character from back in the day?

Re: Dodge Demon 170 reveal - 03/22/23 12:02 PM

Why market a platform that will not be produced after this year.? Doesn’t make a bit of sense. Makes me want to go out and buy a Camero.

The camaro is gone after next year

when it was flown in it did not have the parachute on but either they went behind the wall and installed it quick or there were 2 cars on site.

2 cars for sure, the heli one had a good chance of falling off

Are you sure it was this car? The yellow Hotchkiss T/A was just stolen after an event

Re: Dodge Demon 170 reveal - 03/23/23 12:08 AM

Let me answer some of the questions that is out there.

The Helicopter guy was like a surgeon. We were amazed! It went right over my head!

The 8.91 was legit there at the track, there was people I know in the timing tower that saw it go down.

They can't use the pitchfork demon logo because I believe yearone or someone bought the rights to the character when Dodge let it lapse.

The car with the parachute is the same one that came in on the Chopper. They brought it down the track, behind the tower, mounted the parachute and came back out.

There was three on display at the event, all are accounted for.

Ryan, what/where was the 3rd one. There was the one on the track and the one in the Dodge VIP area - both were silver. I didn't see a third. The one in the Dodge VIP area was missing the parachute but it had the "Alcohol Injected" logo on the hood scoop. The one on track did not have the logo. The one on the track had a fairly stripped interior while the one in the VIP area had the full interior with the cool logo embossed in the seats!

Either way, it's always great to see you!!

It was good seeing you as well.

The third one was outside the Dodge VIP area sorta. By the time I came back around it was covered up.

What is the meaning of the 170 designation? Also, it's interesting that the car has the widebody rear fender flares, but not the fronts.

It's 170-proof grain alcohol that maximizes the HP rating to that insane 1025. They're running drag radials on the back, so they have the wide body fenders there, but they have relatively "skinny" front runners, so no need for the wide-body flares in front.

Re: Dodge Demon 170 reveal - 03/23/23 09:59 PM

And I like that look better than having the flairs both front and rear. Wides on the rear and stock width fronts. Kinda 70s chic.

Re: Dodge Demon 170 reveal - 03/23/23 10:26 PM

It's ethanol gas. It runs on E-85.

And with skinny tires up front and no flares, saves something like 18 lbs.

Re: Dodge Demon 170 reveal - 03/24/23 12:47 AM

I still believe that car did not run 8.91 at the event, the et and speed came up a full 30 seconds after it passed the stripe! And the time was leaked before the car went down the strip, we saw it online a full 10 minutes before the run. No way the et and speed were the same as the leak... work

People that race understand prep, DA, water grains and the limitations of a factory delivered suspension. The numbers are when everything is optimized and you pull off a perfect pass.

I have lots of passes in the 10.20's and only one that is 10.01. Radial prep lately is the biggest issue.

I hear you but they had a demon only event in the winter with a fully prepped track and still not one of the cars hit the 9.65 ET.

with 1000+ hp , the car should be in the 8's.... on a prep'd track, with a good driver... if it's not, maybe the hp is 'fudged' a bit??

The Engineering Explained YouTube channel accuses Dodge of stretching the facts by quoting the Demon 170's 0-to-60-miles-per-hour time at 1.66 seconds because the figure includes a rollout,

The Demon 170 starts at $100,361 after the $1,595 destination fee and $2,100 gas guzzler tax. There are also a variety of exterior color options. A set of carbon-fiber and aluminum two-piece wheels are $11,495. shock shock Inside, just a driver's seat comes standard. Anything beyond that is an option.

There could be if an inertial timing device is used. Seems the 0-60 is done with GPS which starts when the vehicle moves and gets to 6 MPH is how I read it???

Looks like this one will actually run what they say it will (8.90's) in good conditions.
