We like dogs, but they are a pain in the a**, especially with kids in the house and travelling and springtime mud in the yard.

Cats are WAY easier and cleaner and fun in their own way. So we are dogless with 3 cats since our last pooch passed away. I miss the dog but not all the headaches.

I must have been a cat in a previous life, as there's some kind of cellular-level identification with them.
These are a few that have blessed me over the years with companionship & entertainment.
Every one has had a unique personality, and a couple were particularly perceptive and clever.

This is my goof ball Diana. She's a rescue. A friend living in an apartment complex said someone had pushed her out the door and wouldn't let her back in. My friend took her in temporarily and asked me if I wanted to take her home and I am very glad I did She's been great.

he loved the modem till it was changed to a tower Still likes the Direct TV box. I had to put a extension plate on the front as he would fall asleep and keep turning it off LOL 18 years old, pretty much deaf but otherwise doing well

Current cat is the orange floof; Riley. She's that 1-in-5 orange females. She's lucky she's so pretty and snuggly when she wants to be. Because otherwise, she's the most bone-headed cat we've ever had. She can't jump to save her life. Her own shadow scares her. She's a part-time outside cat, but if she needs to make.... she has to be let back inside to use the facilities. Refuses to make outside.

*sigh*

But we adopted her. She's our responsibility.


She's a far cry from my Korat, my little buddy..... Ivan. He wasn't a cat.... he was furry people. He played fetch. He'd walk on a leash. He LOVED car rides. He'd play in water --- he'd take showers..... his repertoire of commands would rival most dogs. And I'm not talking when you suggest to a cat, and they appear to do what they're told.... no.... if you told him "Bed" he'd go to his bed. If you said "Come", he'd stop whatever he was doing and join you by your feet.

I swear to God, this cat could pick up chicks. One time, when I still lived in the big city, I was walking him around the park, when out of nowhere these late teen / early 20's girls came running up and were just enthralled with him. So much so, that one girl scooped him up into her arms and of course the whole time he was just loving it. It took a few seconds and she even blurted out "Holy! I just picked up some strangers' cat!!

If I were smart, I would've asked for phone numbers. Pretty sad when a cat is an effective wing man.
Sadly, he disappeared one night. Don't know what was lurking around, but 5 people on our road lost pets that night. He's been gone 10 years now but we still talk about him.

He even liked my Quadraphonic 8-tracks.

Not even close - she never uses her guns. Here's Kimba on our deck with Lucy - Kimba is about 15 now & still acts like a kitten. Lucy is about 10 now - wow - seems like only a few years ago they were just kitts.

The second pic is our youngest Thor, the pic is several years old he's about 4 now IIRC.

This is one of a pair that i had back in the 80's. Taken in the dark with a 35mm film camera. Was lucky enough to grab it and take the shot before she got out. I had another cat after those two but no pics hosted anywhere. What does everybody use for image hosting now a days?

This is Prince. Had him for 19 years. The black one is Jack, had to have him put down a few months after Prince passed. His loss hit me hard. I was his, he was a great hunter, always under the car with me. We got Aulani in Septemember.

whoops! wrong cat! Used to have cats but we have a dog now. I would agree though that cats are are a lot less work to have around.

Our three: Challenger (gray), Dozer (larger orange) and Sunny (small buff). Dozer and Challenger are littermates. This doesn't count the nearly thirty cats I've rescued and re-homed since I've moved to Kentucky. I've had many cats prior, the last was Diesel, another orange tabby tomcat, who passed on in 2012 at about 13-14 years.

Monte and Ashley, Monte was 18-1/2 and Ashley was 19-1/2, been gone almost two years now, our cats before that were 17 and 20 years old.

This is several years old when he still looked regal. Kidneys are gone so he needs fluids at least once a week.

Somecarguy- They can do a kidney transplant for cats, it not cheap but it is possible to keep him around longer. We have one that has gone through it.

Bigdad - love the old photo! Here's an old one of me & my brothers - our first kitts. I think this photo was taken in 1964 - I'm the youngest. Suzie was my kitty - she lived to 21 years old - we had to have her put down Christmas day 1985. OMG, was that hard to do. Only time I ever saw my Dad cry.

A Panther and a Tuxy. Nice. I have one of each and 9 others. My buddys.

My cats are a bit different from the norm. One is now 28 pounds of muscle. He is like a pit bull in a cat.

They hunt and eat red meat. All I feed them is red meat.

And one time I was the red meat. It was my fault though, in his training he was afraid and I stupidly growled in his ear and he reacted with what his instincts told him.
