Enclosed car trailer rental?

Enclosed car trailer rental? - 10/04/22 06:53 PM

I know Uhaul rents open car trailers but does anyone rent enclosed car trailers (car doesn't have windshield and has many "openings")? I have a car I need to bring down to GA from southern NJ, along with some parts and some Christmas decorations. If I get a shipping company to bring the car down, I can't fit everything inside so I would still need a second trip for the other stuff. I was hoping someone knows of a place (or someone) that rents and enclosed car trailer, about 22' or larger, so I can get everything transported in 1 pass. The car is a roller, no engine or trans, so not as much weight to tow. I have the tow vehicle taken care of already.

Check facebook marketplace, craigslist and any local enclosed trailer sales lot. I see ads all the time for enclosed trailer rentals

There is / or at least used to be a trailer sales place in HARRISON Indiana that would rent enclosed.
Sorry....i dont remember the name of the place
Just west of Cincinnati Oh. Off of Interstate

No idea if they still exist or not

Maybe do a search on Craigslist .

There are several individuals / private owners advertised near me that rent open trailers

There's this place in Indiana that rents them. Not sure if that's the same place you mentioned. It says its in Markle IN.

I've seen their rental trailers during move in at MCACN.
I started digging around a bit in 2021 trying to find if any places in the Chicago area rented enclosed trailers and didn't find anything. There may be some available around here but at least searching online I wasn't finding anything. I gave up on taking a car to the show I'd registered it for then, and was finally able to get a trailer deal from a local guys estate completed after some setbacks in time to trailer the car to the show this year. Seems sort of expensive and inefficient to own, license, maintain and pay storage on a trailer I'm only going to use 2-3 times a year, but you gotta do what you gotta do I guess!
I think it's pretty hit or miss, there are some places that rent them but its not very common at all like rental open car trailers are.

Doesn't seem to be any near the area of where I am starting out. Has anyone "shrink wrapped" a car to protect from rain (for towing on an open trailer), kind of like they put on new boats? Where can you get that stuff?

Have you shop around on for commercial car haulers?
If not, maybe you should twocents scope up
I'm not sure if they will haul a car that they cannot load under its own power or not by them selves shruggy

I have Cab, I've reserved a spot with Applewood. I just have quite a bit of others things to bring down too. Where the car is, an older residential street, I am concerned that the driver might not be able to get the hauler in there (semi). Not to mention I need to fly up there to load and push it, which may need to be pushed quite a distance for a good loading spot. So I am stuck with a week "window" until they narrow it down. A smaller trailer and on my own time frame makes life easier.

You can get shrink wrap in a roll from any U-Haul place

We call it "Crash Wrap"

I know amazon has had it.

For our race teams we had over the years lots and lots of box vans from Grumman, Supreme, etc. On one delivery from Grumman the delivery driver showed up and I watched and waited for a vehicle to show up to take the driver back to the assembly plant and no one showed up. As I waited the box van delivery driver opens the back door, slides out two folding ramps and drives out a small car with a roof rack. Folds up the two ramps, straps them to the roof of the small car and drives away. shock Never thought a small car would fit inside of a box van but that proved me wrong. That's why I know a full-size car with the right ramps will fit inside of a 26' rental truck and saw it done too. Just saying. wink

I think you can also tow a dolly or trailer for you pickup or tow vehicle behind a 26' truck and do it in one move?

I've thought about a box truck but getting the "right ramps" is a whole new can of worms. Also, how do you strap down a car inside? I've rented one before and never saw anything in the floor for a hold down. It is easier to let the semi drive figure out how to get in and out of the location. At least he will have insurance.

Yes, saw the shrink wrap on amazon. For an e body, I am thinking the 17' X 31' size should fit fine?

just a thought.
But have you considered buy a trailer, then resell it once your move is done.

Im looking at open trailers for a move for myself.
But a decent used one and resell it once Im done with it

But my move is a nearly a year out , so Im in no hurry

Yes thought of buying a trailer and reselling it once the move is done. I've looked to see what is available but not being in the area, it creates more logistics problems. I bought a trialer like that "sight unseen" with my friends and it didn't go as well as I hoped. Trailer was not as advertised.

You could hire a roll back tow truck to load and unload the vehicle to the box truck at each end of the trip.
