Anyone make a creeper with back support?

Anyone make a creeper with back support? - 09/12/22 04:53 PM

Growing old is a pain....Literally a pain.

I have found that if I spend any length of time on a flat creeper the bad disk in my back starts killing me.

I looked for a better creeper but they are all flat. Anyone make an ergonomic or back support creeper?

Here's an assortment that might have what you are looking for. https://www.mechanicapproved.com/best-mechanics-creeper/ or maybe this. https://www.shopsolproducts.com/product/creeper-heavy-duty-with-adjustable-backrest-1010484/ pretty expensive but convenient.

Or better yet . . . find a way to get a "lift" . . . I have come to conclusion, after working on my car, at a buddys shop with a lift . . .that is ONLY way to work on a car, now that I am "older" . . .

I would love a lift but the garage only has a 8 foot ceiling and the driveway won't handle one.

Need a new house.

Thank you all for the options.

I need the lumbar support that nobody puts on the creepers.

I think I am going to add back pads to the one I have and see how it goes.

Still open to options though. up

when i replaced the trusses on my garage roof, i actually contemplated adding a second story or loft. i can't remember exactly why i didn't do it.
the one thing i did do, was construct a light weight center beam that eliminated the two posts that were between the two garage doors.
for some reason, i looked up one night at work, and noticed how the steel truss was constructed between two posts that were 49ft apart, and had three 1000lb hoists attached to a trolley system.
i hopped onto a man lift and got up there and measured the material, which was just angle iron and strap steel pieces welded together to form a "hollow" type of beam.
anyway, i just scaled the material down to work for what i needed to do, which was span 32ft.
i then constructed the trusses from 2x6 and 2x8 rough lumber, and they sit on top of the "beam" i constructed.
this left me with only a 7ft 6" clearance under that beam, which is half way, depth wise, across all three bays.
i calculated that would allow me to raise my minivan 22" in the air, which would be "plenty" of room to work under. [oh, the stupidity of youth. laugh2]
so now, in my "golden" years, [ whistling shock panic] the only real thing i can contemplate now, is possibly a mid-level type of lift.
so to all you "youts" out there, if you even get a flash thought through your young noggin about a lift, buy and install it NOW ! you will be SO happy later on in life ! don't be a stupid doofus like me !

You can always make something out of foam and put in on the creeper where you need it? Heck even a rolled up towel might work.

the "egg crate" [?] type of stuff works pretty good for padding, and doesn't seem to bunch up in use.

I have one of these, easy to use and enough room underneath to work on most things comfortable. They are not produced right now due to steel prices, but you can find them used online pretty easily, that is how I found mine for under $1K...
