If the Satellite had a sport hood that looked good, (not a stick on crappo scoop) I would pick that one.
Since it doesn't then I have to go with the Olds.

Maybe the Olds on this one.

I'll pick one.
A different one..............

Olds for sure. Great looking wagons. It would be a closer contest without the silly 440 and Plymouth lettering though.

Re: You get to pick one - 08/31/22 09:51 PM
442 hands down.

Re: You get to pick one - 08/31/22 10:06 PM
If it isn't a Vista Cruiser it isn't worth having, so the Plymouth for me, sans ricky racer decals.

Re: You get to pick one - 08/31/22 11:21 PM
I like the design (shape) of the Plymouth better, but the Olds is the better executed restoration to my eye.
I prefer a stock look with the business stuff not immediately apparent, let alone advertised.
Not a luggage rack fan, either.

Since I've owned a Dodge version of the Plymouth wagon, neither of those two would be on my driveway, but if those two were the only choice, it would not be the Olds. The stickers on the Plymouth would be gone really fast.

Re: You get to pick one - 09/01/22 12:57 AM
Plymouth: Leaner, more integrated front end. Bumper blends with the grille for a more compact look.
Buick too bulky and scattered: awkward shaped bumper, park lamps in bumper, 2 large rectangular grille openings. No-Go.
I guess the hood scoops "grab" everyone's attention.
Rack on any wagon is a go.
Scoops on a wagon: maybe.
Those Olds front ends are F'ing UGLY. That Plymouth wagon any day.

I think I would have to go with the Olds on this one...

Re: You get to pick one - 09/01/22 05:28 AM
Both look great from the era.I'd pick the Plymouth, besides the obvious...My mom had a '71 sedan in gold like the hood insert shown.Sleek lines for a sedan the B bodies had then. Decals would have to go,probably black out the hood and fender tops on all that white.

Re: You get to pick one - 09/01/22 05:47 AM
Olds... Even being a F-85 (short wheelbase, short rear door, no sunroof)
The 71 Plymouth 4 door front ends are not very sporty or appealing. If it had a RR/GTX front end on it, that would be cool.
The Plymouth/Dodge B-body wagons had a cheap look that was a little outdated. The Sedan-like rear window surrounds is something from the early-mid 60's. And that continuous rain gutter that's not needed for the rear windows. Makes it look like the top of a Tin can.

Re: You get to pick one - 09/01/22 06:17 AM
Biggest motor you could get in B-body wagon was a 383/400.
Olds wagon had optional 455 from 70-72. And even rated at 365 hp in 1970, same as 442 std motor rating. The Colonnade 73-up wagons had 455 available to start too.

Olds. I like a good B-body, but it is damn difficult to argue with a well-executed GM A-body. Put a 1971-72 RR/GTX nose on it, ditch the stickers and the white paint, and I might reconsider.

First car to ever beat my hemi car had a dual scooped hood like that.

Like a previous suggestion, put a RR front end on it:
Otherwise....

Re: You get to pick one - 09/01/22 08:23 PM
I'll admit we have one in the family. But I still think it's the best looking wagon wagons
IMHO best looking 60's and 70's wagons:
60-63 Chrysler hardtop wagons
70-72 Vista Cruiser
72-73 Monaco Wagon

ALWAYS the Mopar of course. But if I ever strayed, but I won't, I've said it would be an Olds. But I won't.

I've owned my '72 442 since 1976. 350 4 speed. Been a great car for all of the 46 years. Probably close to 200K miles. Same OAI hood.

Re: You get to pick one - 09/02/22 10:38 PM
Another good looking powerful wagon: 1971 and 1972 Endura Front End (T-41) option. That's the GTO front end with scooped hood.
1971 LeMans Wagons with T-41 option
47 2 seater models
78 3 seat models
------------------------
125 = 1971 total T-41 wagon production
96...350 2bbl
21..L65. 400 2bbl
7....L78 400 4bbl
1....L75 455 4bbl
Zero... factory LS5 455 HO wagons (or 4 door LS5 A-body's of any body style)
***BTW the Pontiac's never got the extended wheelbase A-body station wagon's. Only 64-69 Buick and 64-72 Olds had those.

Ok, if you take the Plymouth you also get $1500 cash for bodywork - what are you going to do with it?

Sorry Pontiac here..... come on folks we all know what we get when we pick something just to be loyal we dont always end up with the best option. I was a loyal sucker to mopar in the 80-s for a daily driver but still had a 5.0 and GN to go fast with.

Take the $1500.00 and rent a lady of the early morning. Considered a form of body work.

So, this is better?
The styling difference between the 2 door B's and 4dr/wagon is what attracted me to the '71-'74 B's.
There's a Hot Wheels out there of a '71 with a shaker scoop on it, never seen the actual wagon it was based of off.
Me, I've wondered how it would look with the '73-'74 bulge grafted on (yes, I know the actual hood is different) or a 'two scoop' ' Cuda style scoops.

Late 80's I had me a my first Diplomat AHB. Honestly wasn't bad with the factory Police 318-4 with the 360 heads and a quadrajet once the converters were removed along with the air pump. Not a race car but very enjoyable car to drive, and RWD, V8 Mopar with solid rear axle and t-bar suspension unlike most things they made then. Eventually it got one of their crate 360/300hp engines rated at 375lb/ft torque (but dynos showed more) and man that car would move with a 3.21 sure grip rear. I have another '89 AHB now with 408 and 3.21 rear and sure grip and is an absolute blast.
