Hard to say but I would not be surprised if Dodge continued to build and sell Charger police cars after they quit selling them to the general public.

Did Ford do something similar with the Crown Vic?

There's been a big move to SUV's so I wonder if Dodge is just abandoning the Police car market or will promote an EV Police sedan or hybrid sedan. There are still many Highway Patrols who still prefer the sedans but it's hard to say if the market is strong enough for manufacturers.

I would think all electric would be a deterrent for police departments.

These cars will need to be on duty for 8 hours and having take a break from your shift every few hours to charge your car is not an option for most departments which are already stretched thin.

Is it an 8 hour run time? I don't even know. We work 10 hour shifts, and I know several agencies that work 12 hour shifts. Seems like all kinds of issues with pure EV's. Idle times eating up more battery, high speeds, etc.

In today's climes they will just buy three cars instead of one. Each car for each shift... eyes

When I go to SEMA this year, going to bring a measuring lazer and check to see how much room there is to convert the new chargers to a V8 gas engine. We are already have salvage yard contracts checked out if it’s doable. A smog exempt hotrod with a gas engine is the plan. Hopefully the motor conversion won’t require getting rid of the car ‘skate’.

The CHP has no plans on going to electric vehicles… we shall see.

A Tundra four door with a police package? Don't laugh. Once Toyota, Nissan, Honda, and others get their foot in the door, church is out.

. I bought a Zero police bike. Had the guys test ride both models. Most of them rode HD, but they really enjoyed the aspects of it. Zero will be supplying the motors for Polaris line of EV. I am in a liberal area, so the public likes them, in addition to out E bikes, designed for public safet use. Can even add a bang-stick mount.

One small town Marshal office has had a Tesla for a while, but you are talking maybe fifty miles on a shift. Sheriff and State need long range and most have take home policy, so charging at home would be a necessity. New cops are whining babies and their wives are harpies. They would scream if not compensated for the electricity used.

My city that is county seat would likely be the first to embrace EV . My Commissioner President hates the idea of recharging a car on coal supplied electric. Our parking garage is solar powered, and they would prefer those charging stations are used.

From what I've heard a lot of departments are saying with patrol vehicles being in use for most of a shift they'd need a bunch more vehicles if they switch to electric for charging and most police stations don't have access to enough power to fast charge all those vehicles at the same time either. It would probably work OK for specific use vehicles and for places where only one driver is using a vehicle as long as there's enough battery capacity to run the vehicle and all the equipment for an entire shift.

Hybrids would have been much better technology to push but of course since they're capable of burning gas they're as bad as any other gas vehicle to the Greta obsessers.

I think my city (Tulsa) still assigns cars to individual officers who can take their cars home.

The cars last longer this way and generally get better care.

I guess they could be paid some sort of charging allowance to charge cars at home.

A suburb (Broken Arrow) just placed a police Tesla Model 3 in service but that is about all I know about it.

There has been pressure for the Postal Service to do electric delivery vans as part of their upgrade of delivery vehicles. I think they are going to do a few more than first planned but the charging infrastructure to charge that many vehicles overnight made it unaffordable for now.

I know the solution but this thread will definitely have to be moved.
