But but where he is anything less than $1000 isn't steeling.

He either needs more help or security cams and warning signs.

Sounds like a team effort.

That swap meet had a lot of sketchy people prowling around it decades ago.

I remember a thief being caught by a vendor at a Pasadena swap meet in the '90s.
Thief got shoved inside the vendor's RV trailer, and all kinds of thumping & swaying ensued.
Cops eventually showed up and hauled the a-hole off; the vendor got a standing ovation.

It would be no small feat to take off with all the stuff he's claiming got stolen.

Re: Fried burger Ripped Off - 07/11/22 07:24 PM

That sucks.

When I go to swap bringing a large amount of desirable parts, I make sure to bring extra people to keep an eye on things. Labeling your parts for sale with prices and writing very brief description or titles on boxes minimizes buyer questions and greatly reduces your distractions. And helps the other people you’re with sell parts taking burden off you. So then you have more time to keep you eyes out.

If you are holding a part for someone, keep that locked in your truck.

I was there at the Long Beach Swap at 7am. Spectators are let in at 6am. By 7am when I walked by his spot, the whole spot was picked almost completely clean except a couple boxes with stuff dumped in them.

Frieburger has over 1 million Instagram and Facebook followers. There were people that went to this swap meet just to say hi and get their pictures taken with him. I read a few reply posts on Instagram (out of 800+) from people that had never been to a car swap meet before, but went to this one just to see Frieburger. I heard it was a mob at his spot early in the morning. With all that activity and random-ness, walking off with a set of heads can be plausible.

Yep, especially with so many non-car or non-swap meet type people there, they probably wouldn't have a clue if the parts were bought and paid for that walked away... work

Thieves are opportunist. They see an absolute mob of people and kaos... they see opportunity.

Reduce their opportunity, reduce your chance of getting stuff stolen.

I have a feeling most stuff sold 6:00 to 6:30 am. I went by at 7 and around 10 and I saw a couple fans casually engaging him.

A regular at that swap said from past experience alone he's got a culprit in mind. And he was eyewitness to nothing.

Well the rest of California is a crime ridden hole, why should a swap meet be any different.

Happens all over.

If he wouldn't have announced he was blowing out cool parts for cheap with his exact swap spot number to literally a million people... it wouldn't have been a swam a locus. BUT he wouldn't have sold as much stuff either.

I don't blame him for advertising it. But I don't think he was prepared for what could and did go down.

100% correct. When I seen is pre-show post, I assumed he would have at least 3+ people helping him. Car criminal crumbum's are always out there and unpractical swap meet display will always bring in the unscrupulous people. Last show I was at, they stole my parts tote while I was taking a uick nap. Luckily it was a cheap Home Depo one and was empty, and this show I knew alot of people were there.

My last swap there were a couple things stolen, hard to keep everyone in check in a 34,000 sq ft building with two floors. The thing that surprised me the most was someone stole a brand new bottle of Jack Daniels, I hope I never find out who did that... hammer

There is a stark difference between a thief and a guy that is having fun with his cars on a tight budget.
Crusty old purists tend to discourage all but the high dollar enthusiasts from ever considering a classic car.
