E15 gas, is it ok to run?

Please keep politics out of this, it's not meant to be that kind of question.

I know it's been on the news that they are going to bump gas from E10 to E15 to help reduce prices at the pump. Is it ok to run E15 in cars? I see some stations around here are 10% ethanol and that's usually what we use. I am not sure of some other stations because I never really paid attention to what percentage of ethanol it is. We have a 2008 Dodge Avenger with the 2.4L and 2014 Dodge Durango with the 3.6L engine. Would going from E10 to E15 do any harm? I do not think the Durango is flex fuel and I know the Avenger is not. If they were flex fuel, I wouldn't worry about it. I looked at the owners manuals for both and did not see a certain percentage limit listed.

The Avenger has lifetime factory drivetrain warranty and the Durango has lifetime max care. Don't want to void a warranty because I can't find E10 and have to use E15.

The E15 is fine to run in a newer car. I've been running it in my 2017 Challenger 5.7 without issue. Minimal fuel economy loss...more noticeable in the winter than the summer. I actually started burning it back in 2017-2018 in my '02 Durango 4.7 right before I bought the Challenger, and had no issues with it in the old Durango.

Now my '79 LeSabre hates it. It's a 301-2bbl Pontiac motor...untouched original car. It burns through E15 like mad. I only tried it in the car twice, but you could damn near watch the fuel gauge drop while you were driving. When I put regular pump 87 in, this car gets 22-23 mpg on the highway without blinking.

Again my BS meter just melted down.
Fact: You burn more fuel per mile when using ethanol so the "savings" is typically lost through increased consumption.
Fact: When introduced ethanol was about .10 a gallon cheaper. Most did not realize due to it's lower efficiency thay were actually paying more per mile with the cheaper fuel.
Fact: The oil companies were making more $$ by selling you more fuel
Fact: When the word got out o n the above, The .10 spread slowly increased to .50 + thereby making the ethanol cheaper and you guessed it, they are now selling more of it and doing well profit wise ( SAY IT AIN'T SO)
BTW this price change over slowly happened the last time fuel prices were at 4.00 or so a gallon
Fact: Ethanol based fuels are worse for the environment than straight gasoline. Don't believe me? Google it or LOOKY HERE

So in summary, they sell more fuel which is more harmful to the environment and make more money while doing so.

There has been a a push to go to 15% for some time, this "lowering the prices for summer travel" is absolute BS and their way of pushing their foot in the door just as they did with the 10%

The Casey's convenience store/gas stations here in rural MO sell both "regular" 87 E10, and E15 which is .10 a gallon cheaper and 88 octane.
I agree that the mileage decrease will offset the slight cost savings (3.79 to 3.69 a gallon) and I'd also worry about effects on rubber/plastic parts of the fuel system in older cars.

In my opinion, E-10 is bad enough. I DO NOT use it in small engines (lawn & snow equipment, or my bass boat. E-10 runs like total SH!T in my Merc-equipped bass boat. I run Rec fuel in my boat now, all my small engines, & my Scat Pack Challenger. We are lucky to have around 5 stations in our vicinity that sell the E-0 rec gas.

E-15 will be worse yet. It will wreak havoc with any of your lawn equipment & small engines. Adding 5% more ethanol to our fuels will help NOBODY, in NO way. It will be worse for our environment too.

I run rec fuel in my small engines as well as my 1970 Monte. If I'm out and can't find rec fuel, I'll get premium. I realize the fuel economy will drop with E15 compared to E10, but some people just look at the price at the pump. I would rather pay the 10 cents more for E10 vs E15 and just drive a bit less.

Went to my first BucEEs interstate fuel stop last week
and was pleasantly surprised to find that
they had four pumps where you could select
90 Octane Ethanol free gasoline for $4.20 per gallon
versus E-10 regular 87 AKI gasoline at $3.86 per gallon.

My prior fuel economy tests on interstate cruise showed the MPG was 6% less with E-10 versus Ethanol free gasoline.

I wish we had an ethanol free option in NJ. Not allowed.

You're paying more for ethanol free than you are saving by running it.

Net loss out of your wallet.
