USPS SIGNIFICANT price increases

USPS SIGNIFICANT price increases - 04/04/22 02:44 PM

As of today..........

First Class Boxes over 22" length will have a $4 surcharge (First Class used to be upto 24") 24" boxes are a common length and are like $0.50ea LESS than the shorter 20" or 22" box when buying in bulk. So now we'll have to waste time cutting boxes down 2"

Priority Mail boxes over 30" in length OR 2 cubic feet will have a $15 surcharge (YOU READ THAT CORRECTLY). So to ship a trunk divider or a hood pad or a firewall insulation would be $15 more expensive to ship by mail. And we don't ship trunk dividers by UPS because they damage them.

It's obvious USPS just wants to ship letters, bubble mailers and very small packages.

I found this info on Ecommerce Bytes. Ebay sellers selling posters, golf clubs, fishing poles, bats, etc said they will basically be out of business.

Bad thing is UPS will be slammed and I'm SURE they wont let USPS add these surcharges and take on all that extra business without raising their rates too.

I hate it for guys like you whole move a good bit of volume and have to as a business . Even for the hobby seller with new rules, new reporting and the shipping costs all combined kills many deals.

I guess that explains something I've been curious about. I've ordered the joint/bone supplement my dog is on from the same place for nearly 8 years. For all hose years it has come USPS, but the last order came FEDEX. Now I know why.

IMO, with the competition in the shipping market, the USPS should scale back to delivering letters and small packages, and let the others handle the bigger stuff.

That sucks. USPS is the only affordable way to get stuff shipped to Canada.

it sounds like they're either trying to get out of the shipping business or using it to offset rising costs in other places which means this is only the beginning to other problems.

Might be cheaper to put some pigeons on steroid diet and have them fly car parts to destinations for me.

I normally use USPS as they have been good to me so far.

Have had horrible luck with UPS here - demolished boxes with holes so big some items fell out and were gone.

And UPS sucks due to their exorbitant customs add on fees. USPS was the only way to go for shipping to Canuckistan.

Re: USPS SIGNIFICANT price increases - 04/04/22 07:20 PM

UPS is getting ridiculous , today I shipped a header tube to Mass. and they wanted $37 and it weighed less than 5 lbs. , I went on the USPS website and priced it out to be $21 I was surprised when I took it to be shipped and it was only $12.60... last year I sold a fiberglass bumper for a Dart .. it weighed 8 lbs and shipping was $80 to the mid -west , I was only asking $50 for the bumper! I ended up selling it and delivering it to Carlisle. The UPS Store is literally less than a 1/2 mile from my house and I try to avoid going there. I am going to have a new set of headers for sale soon I can only imagine what shipping will be on them when I sell them.

Re: USPS SIGNIFICANT price increases - 04/04/22 08:11 PM

Above confirmed today at my USPS trip. My receipt showed $8.70 postage + $15.00 surcharged for length over 36". My $8.70 package cost $23.70 to ship. Bye the way... this was a USPS standard mailing tube that I have used for many years because of the advantage to ship long slender items like trim. Fricken crazy!!!!

Thanks. Corrected. That's what I meant to say. Slip of the key or something auto correcting it to UPS Who knows. But UPS bad, USPS Good.. or was good.

Bingo. Not to mention UPS seems to like testing how strong packages are. They could probably find a way to destroy an anvil if someone had the money to ship one.

They're both getting crazy expensive.
Plus, you can't trust their website pricing.
I have to schlep everything to the PO & UPS Store to get accurate prices.
Both places should at least have some K-Y on hand, or a kiss from a cute girl.

I have to say Jim has the most reasonable shipping costs of all the vendors that I have dealt with. Even with a need to charge more at least we know he isn`t gouging people on shipping.

Buddy of mine picked up a Powerglide from the UPS hub at the Indy Airport. It was in a crate with a 2X4 frame and 1/2" plywood covering. It had holes from forklift forks all the way through it. UPS tried to deny his claim because the crating wasn't sufficient. He finally got paid, but it took almost 2 years.

I am not sure if you are aware buy Pirate Ship has some awesome shipping discounts.

Every time I am outraged by a price increase I pass it along to my customers.
No one complains or says a word because they know I treat them fair.

Yes some deals are affected by shipping increases but when I am selling something it seems the folks that balk at shipping cost balk before they know shipping charges.
