Retreats in Michigan (spiritual/mental type)

Retreats in Michigan (spiritual/mental type) - 02/09/22 11:17 AM

Was going to ask on my facebook, but didn't want the friends to ask what's going on, so I thought I would ask here.

Wife is going through some tough issues and said she needs a spiritual/mental/wellness retreat. I was hoping within driving distance from the area we live (48060 zip code) because of worries about flight cancellations in today's world. I am all for it,but think she needs some classes/courses at the location, not just a spa getaway. Hot tub, spa, pool, courses and all or mostly inclusive would be great. She found one, but everything was an add on for pricing. Not really a fan of that because it can be sticker shock at check out. We are not sure of dates yet, but are looking.

Anyone have any ideas or links they can share?

We've been going to a campground now for 2 years. They offer retreats, but I can't comment, since I have not attended any. Their camp ground is very nice. That I highly recommend. Check out their website for the retreat info. Just west of MIS off Mich Ave (US-12). up

Doesn't look like any retreats are available per the website. I will send the link to the wife and have her call. Thanks

It is early in the season so things may not be posted yet. A call, like you mentioned, is probably your best bet.

She has a friend in Yuma, AZ who invited her out there for a week. Thinking she may go that route and a Michigan one for a second option. Thanks for the replies and keep them coming, she's bookmarking them.

might not be exactly what you have in mind...but give Frankenmuth a shot. They have a big Polka Festival every summer. Great food, all you can eat chicken dinner, lots of great shops and hotels. And not real far from the Henry Ford.

This place has a pentastar in the roof. That HAS TO BE some sort of sign.

Situations and individuals are unique, so general answers to a question like yours are dubious at best. I will also admit I'm not big on this sort of approach based on my own experiences with my wife.

Over the years she's gone to a number of therapists, joined support groups, probably more that I don't recall now. At one point maybe 8 years back she decided she needed to go to a retreat/meditation center. We investigated a number of them around the country. She settled on one on the West Coast. (travel was not as complex as it is now) It was a week long deal. The web site was very well done. Lots of touchy feely stuff and glowing words. She spoke with staff there on the phone a couple times before deciding that was the one for her. Of course insurance didn't cover any of it, so it was out of pocket for us and not cheap.

She was there a day and called me. Wanted to come home. I suggested she give it a bit more time since she'd flown all the way out there. As the week progressed she got more and more unhappy with the decision, but she did stick it out. To this day she calls it 'the concentration camp'. It accomplished nothing for her, perhaps because she had become negative about it early on. It did lighten my wallet effectively though.

She found a faith based therapist who she's been seeing for the last few years now. I was concerned the guy would be a bible thumping fanatic, but I've met him and he seems pretty effective and helping her sort through her issues.

My message is simply this: investigate thoroughly with a skeptical mind. I wish you and your wife the best through this difficult time.
