was there a dodge duster convertible back in the 90's?

I seem to remember a small car convertible based on the k-car frame.
I remember seeing duster written on the rockers or something like that. I don't remember it being a plymouth at the time.
did I remember wrong?

It was a Plymouth, a trim level on the Sundance model.

giving a GUESS on what i think happened.

if it was K car based they made chrysler lebarons and dodge 600 converts from the factory. these cars were originally built as hard tops at the factory then sent out to be converted to convertibles.

what you are thinking COULD be something the dealer converted himself.
when i worked at a Chrysler dealer before the factory made K car converts. they sent out 5 lebarons and had them converted them to convertibles before the factory did this.

i also personally installed factory accessory ground effects, ft & r bumpers with lower rocker panel trim, and tinted headlight covers on about 20 plymouth turismos and put factory 69 GTX name plates on the 1/4 window panels. i painted the entire car a contrasting color from the body side molding down also. the cars actually sold pretty quickly. they originally were going to just a few cars. they sold quickly and customers requested this be done on cars to their preference of colors. i probably would have done more but the parts department ran out of the accessories. by the time they got new parts the customers didn't want cars like that anymore so they stopped doing this. i think the last one i did sat on the lot for a LONG time before it sold.

Yes they built a Plymouth duster convertible. Same as dodge shadow except convertible

I haven't seen many but I have seen a few Duster converts.

funny, I can't find a single one for sale. must not have been that many of them.

Shoot, for that matter, I can't find anything online that says they even existed. I see plenty of references for the Shadow convertible, but nothing for the Duster. There was a Shadow ES that had a similar sticker package, maybe foggy memory is getting confused?

I just purchased a '91 Shadow convertible. Two owner, rust-free, runs great. Ugliest shade of blue ever sprayed on a factory car.

I liked those I seen a blue one on craiglist for 2400. I passed it up it only had 48000 miles on it

I bought a Plymouth Duster 3.0 V6 5 speed (not convertible) in Aqua Pearlcoat brand new in 1992. Traded it in 1997 with just over 100k on the odometer and I was proud to say the trip odometer reset knob had never been touched....small victories.

Had a low line Plymouth Sundance America back in the early 2000s that I used for my daily commuter. It was a five-speed, which made some of the East Bay traffic crawling painful, but I figured I couldn't complain too much since I had only paid $700 for it.

It had comfortable seats, didn't handle too badly, and the hatchback/trunk was pretty useful. I would have wanted to find the 3.0L Sundance Duster edition, but there weren't many around when I was looking and I eventually bought an SRT-4 instead.

As far as I remember, a regular production built convertible was only available in the Dodge Shadow version. Otherwise, the Plymouth Sundance was a coupe, although it looks like the factory did build at least one prototype Plymouth Sundance convertible for the auto-show circuit:

Looks like it has what became the '87/'88 Shelby CSX/CSX-T grille. Possibly even the Fiberride wheels of the '89 version?
