this popped up on my news feed this am. i thought it was rather ingenious solution using existing well established tools to solve a modern problem.

I hope all 3 of those schemes succeed.

I visited the old slate mine in Northern Wales then being built into a pumped storage unit in 1979.

I was invited to visit the Duke Power pumped storage unit in the 1990s but stupidly never got around to going.

Cool, but pumped storage has much larger capacity that that crane contraption could ever handle. Water and gravity are a VERY powerful combination.

Even pumped storage while relatively safe is still not perfectly safe. Google "Taum Sauk Dam Failure"
