School me on iPhone batteries....... - 12/09/21 02:59 AM

.... got an iPhone 6 ... battery is taking a dump - me thimks. What’s the BESTest choice on a replacement battery? eBay has a battery with a FIVE YEAR warranty. But it shows the cycle life of 800. 800 plug ins over 5 years ? Also .. what’s the chance on losing all what’s on the phone during a battery r and r ?

Jailbreak your phone.

I just edited my iPhone's 'hosts' file successfully (on Jailbroken iOS 6.0).

Installed OpenSSH onto iPhone via Cydia
Using a SFTP client like FileZilla on my computer, I connected to my iPhone
Address: [use your phone's IP address or hostname, eg. simophone.local]
Username: root
Password: alpine
Located the /etc/hosts file

Edited the hosts file in a decent text editor (such as Notepad++).
Added: moparts.org 127.0.0.1
Uploaded the changes, overwriting the hosts file on the iPhone

The phone does cache some webpages and DNS queries, so a reboot or clearing the cache may help. Hope that helps.

Now the battery works like new and only needs charged twice a month. Try it, you'll like it.

Many years ago it was not the battery that was the problem, they put something in the update to drain your phone so that you will invest in a new phone..they admitted to it once they were caught

Batteries Plus replaces cellphone batteries and are very reasonable, if they are in your area.

Why would they? You have an old phone with an old battery.

Why should you get a discount? Batteries wear out. The fact that you bought it brand new isn't relevant. That was a long time ago. They stopped selling new 6's what, 5 years ago?

Re: School me on iPhone batteries....... - 12/09/21 11:11 PM

Watch the youtube video on battery replacement, if that's for you then go on EPay and buy the battery that comes with the replacement kit/little tools and stuff,
and then don't screw it up.

That's how I did it back when I used that old clunker everyday, 4 devices ago or whatever it was. Still working today as a backup. A very slow backup.

All the different brands of batteries probably come from the same Foxconn factory in China with the suicide nets, just like the phones themselves.

Re: School me on iPhone batteries....... - 12/09/21 11:18 PM

The iPhone 6 came out in 2014, making the OE battery 7 years old...
Most cell phone batteries last 3-4 years before they start dropping in life span...
Best bet is to get a battery from Apple, hopefully it will last another 7 years..
Or by that time 7G will be the cell phone protocol...

Just my $0.02... wink
