The last time we went there 2015? it was a total disaster getting in and out as well as the parking was so far away one needed to pack a lunch. the swap prices were pretty outrageous as well.
On another note DO NOT stay in nearby Fairview heights, Seems the E St. Louis boys make it a point to hit the hotel / mtel parking lots on a regular basis during the weekends.

The Mopar Blast didn't exist in 2015. so it wasn't at that event. laugh2

You're complaining about a completely different event.

The first Mopar Blast at Gateway was July of this year. whistling

There was no problem with how far away you had to park since everyone was parked in the drag race pits.

As far as safety at the motels, how is that the events fault?

Then it was another Mopar based event, Pardon Me for being in error Mr. Perfect whistling

I never said the safety at the motels was the event's fault, I just wanted anyone attending to be aware of the problem.

You're the one on here belly aching about how you weren't happy with a completely different event.
Which is what I posted the last time you made the comment about it on the thread talking about the Mopar Blast this last July.

A LOT of car break ins at the motels/hotels along with a few mugging's & assaults. One of the staff members at our place ( Drury Inn) got paid back for calling the police and was hospitalized. The police said it's an expected normal occurrence and they were too understaffed to deal with it frown . You would think the businesses would hire off duty officers or something. But no, they claim it's too expensive. NICE!!!!

We were lucky with no problems but didn't stick around for another night of excitement. And no these were not dives' but rather new hotels restaurants etc. The police said it's just a bit too close to Ferguson and E St Louis and the thieves consider it easy pickings.
I'll advise to anyone going and staying overnight to go another 30 or so miles up the road which is what we did the second and third nights. No problems there beer

As I said then,

You may have gone to an event at Gateway, but it was never the Mopar Blast since this is the first time it will ever be held at Gateway.
Previous years were all held on a Ballpark parking lot in O'Fallon MO and were strictly car show and swap meet events thta had no racing like this one will.

As far as the motels at Fairview Heights, we've stayed at both the Drury Inn and the Econo Lodge several times for Monster Musclecar and other events at and never had a problem.

Even though we're local, we live an hour away from the track and it's easier to spend a night in a motel close to the track than waste 2 hours each day driving back and forth.

There are criminals and thieves even in the wealthiest of neighborhoods.
Fairview Heights isn't considered a bad area by any means, it's mainly retail stores and restaurants.

Don't get me wrong, I hate Illinois but Fairview Heights isn't even remotely a bad area.
You're in a far worse area when you're at the track it's self, that's where you shouldn't feel safe.
They don't put racetracks in "nice" neighborhoods.

Admit it, you just want to complain about an event you don't even attend. ozbbq

As far as hotels go I have always stayed in Collinsville IL which is not to far from the track and have never had a problem with or without my car. It is a nice area with decent hotels and restaurants. I just stayed there a few weeks ago as I was passing through for work.

Re: St.Louis Mopar Blast 2022 - 12/04/21 05:01 PM

The morning following the first night we awoke to the Fairview PD all over the parking lot. I 'm going to say at least 20 vehicles had their side windows broken and the interior's rifled through. Fortunately ours wasn't one of them likely because we had left NOTHING in the vehicle. One of the hotel clerks was beaten unconscious while emptying the trash about 2:30 AM due to the perps thinking he noticed them. A guest had also been assaulted when his silent alarm went of and he tried to intervene. Lastly, another guest who was quite upset at the business as his truck and trailer had been nailed. The clerk kept stating they were not responsible and there were signs posted to that effect. The PD had to intervene
as he was not taking no for an answer. They wound up handcuffing him, and stuffed him in the back of a cruiser. He was still in it as we left shruggy
A few of the officers said it was a "NORMAL" weekend and they were to understaffed to do much about it. One commented they even tried having a unit repeatedly circle the area but apparently lookouts would alert the thieves who of course when then hide until the cruiser left the lot and they would resume their activities. He said if your staying here another night leave the doors unlocked, you glove box etc. open and they'll likely leave your car alone. NICE!! He also commented that the perps would hit every motel / Hotel on both sides of the interstate.
We checked out and went another 25-30 miles east (forget the name of the town / exit) and had no further issues.
Maybe they have figured out a solution to the problem (I could think of several at the time) and was quite shocked by everyone's responses' (The Motel and PD)
And the other poster is right, it looks like a nice fairly new retail area with shops, motels, eating, gas etc. But late at night on the weekends it was a hotspot.
Just wanted to give a head's up to anyone attending the event beer

So something that happened 7 years ago is how you base all your decisions???????????????

We have stayed at two of the motels (Econo Lodge and Days Inn) there during Phil Painter Monster Musclecar Events and NEVER had a problem there either time.

You're not actually helping anyone, you're being negative about attending a Mopar event based on something something that happened 6 years ago that had nothing to do with this event in any way.

There's crime everywhere.

Every time anything is held at WWT aka Gateway you post the dangers of staying in the area.

You're supposed to be a big boy so make decisions for yourself and let others do the same on where they chose to go.

Any updates ?

I haven't heard anything about the 2022 Blast lately.

Is it safe to assume that it is still a "GO" ?

Yes it's still a go.

https://stlouismoparblast.com/

I got an email from the club saying they had an online pre-registration set up but they didn't share a link.

I literally had just sent him an email asking about a link or info for it.

He responded.

The form is at the bottom of the drag race page or car show page (same form) You can pay online there is a link on the page or on facebook. You could just pay and email us your receipt also, whatever is easy

We’re going to head up on Sat. I’ve never been to Gateway and since I live fairly close now we’ll give it a shot. I want to watch the Hellcat classes too since that’s what I hope to be racing in next year.

We got set up in the pits yesterday in the evening.

From what I was told, pre-registrations number for the racers was up from last year.
This is the second year of the event at WWT Raceway/Gateway.

Gates open today at 9 am.

Finally got the Dart down the track today at the Mopar Blast.
These are the first passes on this engine.

Car number 451

1st pass 11.78 at 115.9

2nd pass 11.80 at 113.89

3rd pass 11.68 at 115.89

I'm pretty happy with it for the first time out.

Re: St.Louis Mopar Blast 2022 - 07/10/22 07:28 PM

Well, in the end it's my understanding that the car counts were up this year over last year which was the first Mopar Blast at Gateway/World Wide Technology Raceway so hopefully the event will continue to grow.

I had a great time, it seemed like that other than the morning rain on Saturday everything went pretty well.

The car count might have been higher if it hadn't rain in the morning.
I know of some people who decided not to come Saturday because of it raining in the morning till about 10 am.

Re: St.Louis Mopar Blast 2022 - 07/11/22 02:42 PM

Rain on Saturday morning was a bummer. They just about had the track dried from the first rain when a second small shower went through and had to start over. Oh, well. Can't control the weather.

The race pits looked pretty full and the show was nice--lots of cars I had never seen before. Not huge, but a nice turnout for only the second year.

I haven't spent much time at gateway since the new owners bought it and saved it about 8 years ago--they definitely have put some serious money into it. They just hosted their first-ever nascar cup race last month, so I'm sure it was looking it's best.

Great to hear things are growing in a positive direction.

Is the swap and show car fields growing too?

Re: St.Louis Mopar Blast 2022 - 07/11/22 06:32 PM

From a visual standpoint, I think that the car show numbers were up simply because it looked like they were covering more area than last year.

Till I talk to someone with the car club and get an actual number, who knows. laugh2

Re: St.Louis Mopar Blast 2022 - 07/11/22 11:29 PM

The pits were definitely full. And the Mopar racing was COOL! What there was of it. But there weren't but maybe 40 or 50 show cars. A couple of cool ones did show up, but not much of a turn out IMHO. And the swap was even smaller with no car corral to speak of at all.

We enjoyed the racing.....until there were 20 or 30 minutes of 14 second crapmaros and rustangs with more coming. That's when we split.

It really needs to be promoted more. This is the only place that I heard of the meet. I guess the racers all knew about it and seemed to turn out. But if spectators and show and swap guys matter, then more effort sure needs to be made to let them know it's going on.

Unless you want to watch racing (and it didn't seem like a lot did as the stands were nearly empty) it is way too much money for too little Mopar experience.

Re: St.Louis Mopar Blast 2022 - 07/12/22 07:31 AM

It definitely needs more promotion, they want to rely on social media "Facebook" which isn't enough IMO.

The main reason that it's even here on Moparts is me posting about it. hammer

The main reason that the event is even at WWT/Gateway is that they put it on at the same time as a points bracket race.
Otherwise WWT wants so much $$$$$ it isn't affordable to do.
