Barry Newman in another car scene - 11/24/21 12:56 AM

In the YouTube rabbit hole and I come across this Torino clip. The initial glimpses of the drive got me thinking. Is that Barry Newman?

Sure enough. Plagiarized clips from VP.

Having beat a 71 charger that hard into the ground (parts car) I can say with certainty someone had a very sore back and body after that movie shoot.

Great vid clip up

1972's "Fear is the Key".

Not a terrible movie, but these scenes almost seems tacked-on due to the success of Vanishing Point. This is how the movie starts off, but after they escape, the movie grinds to a halt and turns into a dramatic movie with zero action.

Geez, made my back hurt just watching it! cry

A lot of that made no sense. He goes over hill and over dale to just end up right back in front of the cop car? I know it was pieced together to make the video, but those scenes didn't look cut. shruggy

stumpy, I've seen similar 'wood roads' when crews were laying pipe or running power poles out across soft fields.

Always fun to watch someone trash a Ford, but past that, it didn't do much for me. I think they should have put a few of the scenes in a different sequence so at least the damage to the car was consistent. Car chase scenes are really hard to make them look right.

Oh totally. There's got to be two or three cars used to film this. There's one with some serious front end damage, one that had the rear valance peeled off and then I think the third one that pancaked onto the ferry and bent the frame. I really wonder how that car kept running as it must've been consuming u-joints on an hourly basis!

I'll have to check my DVD, I think the video posted on youtube has some parts cut out, but for the most part it's a very exciting chase scene and really well done. Don't know who the stunt driver was off the top of my head. I'd assume being 1971-1972, it was probably Carey Loftin but could be many others since this was not a big Hollywood production.

The car was a 72 Torino. A 72 Torino was a different car then a 71 Torino was, a 71 was still a unibody, but a 72 was a full frame car. That would put the film production date after 8-71, unless Ford gave them a preproduction car to kill.

One of my buddies had a 72 Torino in the late 70s. He beat on it pretty bad, they were pretty tough cars. He ran off the end of a T intersection near here, folded it up about like the car in the last jump in the video. He managed to drive the car home, but It was not driven after he got it home. They faired a lot better on the car jumps then a 69 Charger did in the TV shows. Gene

The car chase scenes in Ronin are some of the best ever filmed. Granted they are all foreign cars but they are still good.
