I'm a big fan of their Precision Bass.

I got a pair for Christmas several years back. I like them but seldom use them. My biggest complaint is that they don't lay flat as it it comes up over the top of the fender. I'd either catch the part sticking up, or I'd hit the raised part and it would knock a tool off. It's kinda like throwing a door mat over your fender.
Take a look at this sales pic to see what i mean.

I've been using old bath towels for years.

They are ok but kinda thin. Also be careful you don`t get a false sense of security when using them. If you drop anything heavy it may still do damage. Better then nothing for sure.

I have a couple of the old quilted type moving blankets that I use when not opening things up.
A layer or two of cardboard bent to fit over the fender with the blanket over and under is nice.
I never lay tools on the cover as in the pic. Rather, I use a small roll-around cart, and for small jobs one of those magnet backed bowls on the fender ledge, or radiator support, On nice paint I use a clean shop rag under it.

I never lay tools on fenders like that or else I keep knocking them down.

I use just a thick beach towel and I never lay any tools on it. I have a rolling bench with wheels locks that I use for random tools. Better safe than sorry.
