Does anyone want to have a SERIOUS DISCUSSION about WHY there is a lack of forum participation from moparts sponsors and other people who are IN THE KNOW ?... yet stay on the sidelines or BAIL COMPLETELY from any part of the Internet.

This RIGHT HERE is a VERY MILD example of what has happened to people who are/had been paying sponsors of moparts.

Two famous examples of businesses getting smeared and attacked- that are not secrets ... are 440s and Hughes...

The way they were treated was absolutely shameful

You want Ted Stephens to comment? The Laysons guy? Resto Rick? Lenny from Ultimate Converter Concepts?
What if the vendors have cryptic screen names to hide their identities?

Forums like this are not the only platform any more.
The younger generations are not interested in what we are.

Dare I even say, that a Mopar cars' day in the sun has passed. Most are priced so high that the average person doesn't give two flying figs about them anymore. They've become so expensive, they're not on the average Joe's radar. They've become investment grade playthings.

But don't take it personal, I see it happening all over. The Turbo Dodge forum is barely holding on. The AMC forum rarely has anything posted about the big-money cars. Most posts are in regards to Gremlins, Hornets, Eagles and the lesser-valued cars.

I'm trying to think of websites or webforums that have folded in my time. Once upon a time, there were TWO AMC forums. I think the other forum has gone away. The 8-track Collectors society moved to Facebook and splintered up. Don't know if many people use the C.E.D. Forum since it too is on Facebook.

Young folks don't collect things anymore. Many are struggling to just survive. It's quickly becoming a very different world.

A buds wife is part of a couple of CRAFT forums ... lots of jealous HATERS there !

I read posts when I get a chance just to see who's saying what....sometimes you just can't find comedy like this on TV anymore....

But I have a real job, so I spend most of my time out in the warehouse playing with guns and knives so that I can keep as many customers as I can smiling....

It's a combination of things really:

• Social media
• User hostile elements to the site like Infolinks
• Aging demographics and younger people were effectively priced out of the classic car market
• Some of the userbase here

Don't take this as a personal attack Doc, but a lot of your antics play into my fourth point. I've seen you and others engaging in name calling that spans multiple threads and even into ones that weren't started by anyone engaging in this behavior. It's very off-putting to those that are still here. You're just begging for confrontation in some of these threads and unfortunately there are those here that are obliged to give it to you.

I'm not trying to single you out. I only pointed at you as this is your thread and you can see it right now with not just you, but others in threads in both General and Q&A. Members poking one another with sticks and carrying it into other threads certainly doesn't help the survivability of the board. For the ones that are put off by it it just makes the jump from here to Facebook Groups that much easier.

Not the only reason for this place turning into a ghost town, but it certainly contributes.

Yeah, I can remember a lot of the posts about 440 Source. I haven't seen Brandon post here in a while. I've got one of his rotating kits in my car and have been very happy with it.

That said though, a lot more came out in support for 440 Source than those that dogged them.

Don't know if this guy is a sponsored vendor, or associated with one, but that post went to hell. The business doesn't need to be directly smeared - just caught in the cross fire.

I used to be a big proponent of 440Source and run a lot of their parts with, what I would consider, great success. After emailing them about a failed balancer and getting no response and then the way Brandon played the blame game afterwards, I can say I'm not thrilled with them.

As far as Hughes, the catty and demeaning comments they made when Moparts members were doing a build to compete in Enginemasters told me all I needed to know about that place.

Hughes ? ..some people can be CATTY in their own environment !

Went off the rails STARTED with an UNFRIENDLY jab at me. I can take it and JABBED them right back ....

But then with the topic in general... no real specific info like availability. Weight or price ...which should’ve been presented

Obviosly I dont post on here too often just mainly lurk....


There are several factors for me at least on not coming here and posting/lurking anymore

1) This is the biggset issue I have and my guess is multiple other people have the same issue. Its infolinks. There are many people here who dont want or know how do install adblocker. The ads are truley a pain and I think the risk/reward factor here is really low. I think many members stopped coming here all together or post rarely now because of this. It can be tough when you try to open a thread then the page jumps down because of infolinks. Heck it took me 3 trys to log in to post this because the screen kept jumping. I understand this is probably an expensive site to run but infolinks is doing a disservice to the actual companies that have ads here.

2) Other social meda, whether it be Facebook, Craigslist, Instagram..... Its a lot more easier to share a car for sale on Facebook fore example then send a link for a car listed on here.

3) Like its said earlier.... the bickering between members. It doesnt come off as a fun and family friendly forum when you have members just calling each other names in the threads. To go along with this there are some threads that get off topic or highjacked way too easily. For a new member again this is off putting

4) The prices of Mopar cars are through the roof/Younger generations not into old cars. I'm a millenial and have a 69 Dart and to restore it I am putting a lot of money into the car. The cars themselves are expensive but the parts add up really quick. Why would someone build an old school Mopar when you can get a fox body and run way faster for half the price

5) Other forums.... people are leaving for other forums for a variety of reasons but it seems like many people are jumping ship here to go to other forums


This is just my opinion. I think this site will never be as good as it was 5-10 years ago but I believe there is some hope with a few changes

I wouldn't put it entirely on him but I would say he makes the top 5 list of reasons. I mean I stop scanning for interesting things when I see his name. What we need here is the app proposed in the movie The Internship - locks you out of social media when yer drunk.

Nobody hears the sarcastic tone in your voice or see's the grin on your face over the 'net. Words are taken at face value.

Doc FiBeRgLaSs is a good guy give him a break. I think he is quite entertaining ,, now if we could only get Eddy Miller to come back to Moparts........

Vendors are in the business of making parts, moving product, and providing support all while making money. While some may want to engage in frivolous banter, and probably will do so in person, most don't want to engage with the potential blackhole of online exchanges and I'd guess none of them want to get into a rat hole debate on electronic mediums with their existing and potential customer base about products. They specialize in making PARTS not engaging with DEBATE. Aside from a casual product announcement, I really couldn't imagine vendors want to extensively engage with the membership here and risk any of those potential relationships.

Moparts, while providing a broad range of knowledgeable and supportive members, also has a percentage of population that treat this as their own personal playground that tends to play the clique factor up to 11, and has a percentage of those that want to constantly question vendor motives, margins, intent, etc. However, its always been that way and only the names in the game have changed since I first started visiting in the mid '90s. Some were really bad, most more annoying. This factor tends to drive away a number potential members. Since I am active on a number of different websites, I can say on the mopar related ones, most of those memberships don't hold a real high opinion of moparts member forums aside from its classified sections.

There also is the factor that mediums to reach end users are becoming more diverse as well as the core of the old school car owners that are still swap meet and in person event guys that don't give a flying flip about electronic communication.

I agree with what you say about 440 Source but back some yrs Hughes brought a lot of it on himself. I have purchased from him but even then his phone manners were like Russ light.

I will say that does seem to have ended which is a good thing.

NOBODY has kept me from coming around. Mostly stay away from unmoderated and maybe General Forum if you might take offense to something. I've asked legit questions in the tech section that I guess were too unsophisticated and practically been torn a new one, as if you should already know all the answers to be on the forum. But I won't let that stop me because I NEED the forum more than the forum needs me.

I'd love to contribute more but infolinks prevents my phone from scrolling or bringing up the keyboard 99% of the time. I'm not installing anything on my phone because this site is the only one that has this virus. In addition to that, I try to never comment on things I don't have first hand knowledge on.

And if we're being honest, and since it's your (Doc's) thread, with all due respect I cringe at 75% of your posts. The cheesy nicknames, the random capitalizing, the double posts. Are we adults discussing a hobby or 14yr olds who just got their first cell phone and are trying to fit in? Sorta brings down the quality of discussion in my opinion.

While I do agree there is always a zest for life I also think sometimes restraint is warranted. I see that Doc takes extra time to capitalize and uncapitalize. It's a choice which to me is weird. I rejoined after many years because someone poked fun at him and I thought it was funny. Also I am in the process of finding a valid 62 Dodge Dart Wagon to build. I remember lots of characters on this board over the years. Yes I remember when Doc was banished. I must say I have never met him but I truly believe that if anyone would they may actually like him. The names he says to respond to texts I agree may be offensive. Calling me Sargent Schultz I won't go into.
