Cuda' /Barracuda Prices

Cuda' /Barracuda Prices - 04/20/21 06:24 PM

Been kicking tires for a few years for another B'Cuda.
I have had my Cuda for 40 years and always wanted a 2nd one.
People are NUTS. As has been stated many times on this site, Barrett Jackson,,Mecum etc... has every owner...dealers even worse believing a "fixer upper " is 50 grand.
Looked at a 70 that was cobbled together ex drag car back on the street. Wanted 38,000...... I would have given them 18,000.
Ok....back to watching Retro TV when used cars were priced reasonably....😉

I looked at an old 40's/50's dodge truck a few years back. A solid $5,000 truck at best. Guy said these are selling at Auction for $50,000 dollars so I can't take less than $40,000. I didn't argue that TV Auction prices are fake and inflated, I just passed.

I have seen some good deals on Facebook Marketplace but I wasn't looking for a Cuda. Good Luck

My 70 barracuda cost $21,000 as a roller and I was happy to get it. It needed interior too but that's the way it goes sometimes.

I’ve sold off a few projects cars and they sell as fast as I list them. Rust free Texas Cuda demand a premium

The problem is peoples uniformed perspective, " these are selling at Auction for $50,000 dollars" except they are in no where near the same condition or in some cases the same vehicle. The same is true for the Barracuda /Cuda market. Two different cars/ Value. Yes 70-71 E bodies bring a hefty price and the true Cuda heftier yet and somewhat understandably, but not all Barracudas were created equal Look at how much people are asking for 64-66 model yrs. They see the top of the line70-71 at auction and directly associate their car to that value with out understanding the differences in desirability and condition. Any of us with any age remember the days when theses were just old cars and the prices reflected that, now they are all rare collectables that only need a little TLC to make them worth 10's of thousands...ok rant off.

In terms of E Bodies, are the Challengers more or less desirable compared to the barracudas? Were production numbers similar for both? (I'm an A body guy that would love to own an E body one day)

Generally speaking, a Cuda is more valuable than an equal model Challenger. And production numbers were quite a bit lower for the Cuda/Barracuda vs. the Challenger.

I guess that explains why it seems like I see more Challengers at random car events. Thanks!

You're welcome! Here's the total production: Challengers-188,606, Barracuda/Cuda-126,586.

I do see the 64-66 a-bodies on ebay are like 18 to 25 now - mostly offered by dealers. Not long ago those cars were under 10 all day long as they don't generate a lot of excitement. Nice cars, but still who wants to say they paid 30k for a 1966 273/auto barracuda at some online classic car dealer? 1970 and up 318 dart and duster asking prices are now at, or above, what real 340 cars used to list for.

Things that make me scratch my head about this recent jump in prices...

Are people are really buying this stuff for those prices, or these are sellers/dealers asking double and still getting 2/3 of what they want making the buyer feel like they got a deal?

What the demographic is of those buyers? Around here there is little to no youth movement in the old car hobby. You go to car shows, the track, and the swap meets where these cars are found and the people there are 50-70+ yrs old. Is it just the same Boomers who already have these old cars and are just buying more and more stuff?

On the lower end price wise (not restored cars) it seems to be kids buying and thinking they're going to build up and sell to make a killing... but most 5-7k asking price cars Im seeing are just parts cars at best.

Re: Cuda' /Barracuda Prices - 04/21/21 11:14 PM

Dennis I have been looking for a reasonably priced Ebody for yrs. I would like to have a 2nd one as well. like you I have had my cuda for 40 plus yrs. To this day I regret back halfing it.

I know I won't find what, I want price; or quality wise so I decided to make some changes, I installed a factory dash and got rid of the aluminum one. Updated the suspension, interior and will wire it so all factory lights wk. Yeah its still back halfed but if I choose; will be able to drive it on the street.

With your skills Dennis you could always put yours back on the road.

Re: Cuda' /Barracuda Prices - 04/25/21 02:04 PM

You think that is nuts I back in 2004 I paid 2k for a 67 Barracuda driver and $3500 for my project Superbee. Wife thought I was nuts then but I told her it was better to buy them while I could afford them. Seems hard to even find a 69 Bee for sale now. I have all the parts for the car after all these years but haven't touched it. It went into the garage and has sat. I have seen a similar car online going for $18k. As for the barracuda, it now has all the sheetmetal done(huge amounts) and is about to go into primer.

I can't believe what the 72-74s are pulling right now. Crazy prices and they are still selling. I'm very glad that I picked up my 74 last year before the values went through the roof.

I bought my project A12 SuperBee roller from R&R Salvage just months before Ron passed away. $3500. F6, 4-spd, buckets, console, black vinyl roof. One of the best investments I've ever made.

True. And '68- '70 Chargers... amazing what people will pay for one. The '70s Ramchargers up there. Been on the hunt for a '79 (or anything close). Even the non-running rust buckets are expensive. Screw that idea for now.

I bought this 18,000 mile v-code 4 speed super trac pac for $800 in 1975. lol It was a 13.1 .030 over 4:56 former race car but had all parts taken off when new. Except of course the block. 2mpg killed anyone wanting it.
