It’s a 1968 Plymouth Trouble Shooting Contest

Looks like some type of amphitheater.

Thought Hollywood Bowl but they’re doing it right where the seats would be.

I believe the picture is the National finals for the 1967 Plymouth Trouble Shooting Contest which I believe was held in Detroit 6/1967.

Back when people were taught to fix and build things...

Looks like '67 Barracudas, at the start of the competition, high school students running to the cars & the guys in suits are the Chrysler guys and/or auto-shop teachers.
Buddy of mine was a finalist in '69, and they had Road Runners, IIRC.
He's pretty much a Chevy guy, but also a racer, fabricator and restorer of vintage race cars.

Also notice, there is not a single obese person in the pic.

Have y'all noticed the many marshmellow-shaped milque toast "kids" in society today? Sometimes I'd go pick up my daughters from high school about 10 years ago & watch the boys as they headed about. SO MANY of them that had never held a baseball bat, hockey stick, or ever thrown a football in their entire life. You could just tell. I thought it was disgusting.

Very cool picture for sure! I was thinking Motec automotive school, but the mechanic comp makes sense. Awesome pic!

No - Motech's property never looked like that. The amphitheatre in the background is pretty unique.

I believe they are 68 barracudas.

67 will have “Plymouth” lettered emblems across the front header.

These cars do t have that. Also in Dec 1967 they would be well into the 1968 model year.

May be hard to see in this pic but on the lighter (white?) cars I don't see any marker lights as found on '68's......... scope (I blew up the pic a little, still didn't see them)

Regardless, still a cool old photo! up

Re: Cool old photo - 03/27/21 01:22 PM

Autoxcuda, there have been numerous other detailed photos on the internet of the finals at the venue shown in 1967. They have clearly shown the venue and the Barracudas without any round side marker lights.

The 1966 finals was at Detroit. I do not know the car model used.

The 1968 finals was at Indy Raceway with notchback and fastback Barracudas that all had round side marker lights.

The 1969 finals was at Indy Raceway with Road Runners. Every picture that I've seen has shown all hardtops.

The 1970 finals was at Indy Raceway with Dusters.

I don't know where you came up with December 1967. Snow and cold everywhere, none on the pictures.

Great observation. Another area we've let our youth down and why they are dying younger now.

Re: Cool old photo - 03/31/21 10:10 PM

A couple of years ago someone sold a couple of dozen original photos on ebay of the 1969 contest.

Google in "1969 Plymouth Troubleshooting contest national indy" on a search and you will see some of them.

Yes! Taught to fix things AND were interested in working on things like cars. I hate the way most young males seem like they couldn't care less about what they are driving, as long as it moves and has a/c. Mom's SUV is just fine for them.

I am looking for the 1969 Plymouth trouble shouting trophy just in case someone owns it and considers selling it

67 trophy....

This 69 trouble shooting contest would have been cool to be in.

I wonder if there happened to be 2 carburators under that oval air cleaner or a single 4 barrel on that 69 Road Runner
