Wireless WiFi Security camera recommendation?

I am looking for a OUTDOOR system that works on WiFi, Soler powered,i phone & verizon compatable,that takes photo,s and video that can be sent to my phone. I don,t want to have to pay a monthly fee for expensive 2g-3g connections or cloud storage fees . Maybe 4 cameras tops.
Anyone have such a system they can recommend?

I think it will depend on how good your wifi signal is.
I am only aware of 1 battery powered reolink that will work, but it isn't continuously on. It starts to record/broadcast when something moves in its range.
It is held on to its base by a magnet, so it can be pulled down and change the batteries every few months depending on activity level near it.
I say that it worked for a couple of years but died mysteriously and never bothered to replace it. I used rechargables in it and swapped them out every 2 months instead of doing litium cr123's which would be 4 bucks every couple of months.

If you could plug it in there are a host of other options that might be better.
your other choice would be to use plug in cameras, but wire up a battery back up powered/charging off the solar panels.
But I have no idea what that would cost or run time.

Ring floodlight cam, few of those and a ring doorbell and you are flying. 100 bucks a year to have it saved and watch from phone etc. I even went with a ring alarm system and got the insurance discount. Think that’s included in the 100 bucks, but don’t quote me on that.

I recommend Arlo Pro. I have 4 cameras. Wireless, rechargeable batteries. Can use a solar panel to keep them charged. For the cameras I can reach, I don't bother with the solar panel. Nice to be able to see when a package is delivered. No monthly charges.

I use Wyze products. They are cheaper than most, but also have some glitches. If you want reliability, it will cost you. They do not recommend a solar powered kit as it will void the warranty they say. I use it to see who is here and when things get delivered. I'm fine with the lag in notifications because I am not paying a monthly fee and not relying on it for actual security.

My son has a Blink system that he bought from Amazon. Battery operated with wi-fi capabilities. The system he got was the basic muti-camera package but you can go as elaborate as you want for more moola.

It sounds like it changed now with more battery cameras becoming available but I always found it funny that wireless security cameras used to mean they run on wifi but you still need to provide power to them. Because usually it's pretty easy to get a network cable to it and it's getting power to it that's the problem.

I've been looking for one for ever that will work in our Alberta winters. My friend has the Arlo's and they go funny when the real winter weather starts. Need something with a lead acid battery probably for the colder days.

That is actually quite common. POE is the acronym you are looking for on the spec sheet. most times you need a switch that supports it.
some equipment comes with adapters if your network isn't set for it.
But at some point a wire is a wire to pull. be it power or eithernet.

Thanks. That's what a lot of buildings use for their cameras but it doesn't seem too common for the normal home type systems where the cameras usually connect directly to the unit. Maybe you can use a powered switch with some of those too? I never checked. The $ adds up fast. For now I've been using trail cams where I wanted cameras for. It's not as convenient but at least you can still get an idea of what's going on and catch problems if something ever happens.

so there are 2 types maybe more but what you said is about 2 different types of systems.

IP cameras are basically network based cameras. So they use ethernet or wireless to connect to your local network.
So they don't have to plug directly into the dvr(recording system) for them to be recording.

The other type of camera is a direct connect camera, it doesn't have any brains other than it being a camera. It has to direct wire to the system that lets you view or record off those cameras.
Think of it like just a camera with wires hanging out the back that has to hook to a monitor to see what is happening.

Most modern camera systems are ip cameras.
Reolink is the better choice so far for regular non-tech consumers.
There are other software and camera setups the more technical you are to set up stuff on your own.

the poe type cameras are just a type of ip cameras.
you then only have to pull 1 cable to hook it into your network.
Wireless cameras are ip cameras but they still need power instead of power and network, or poe network type stuff.
At this time it isn't that much more expensive to do POE over regular ethernet.
Most people feel wired is more secure due to hacking and jamming.
If you have a wireless camera I can flood the area with 2.4ghz signals and jam the feed to your monitors.
or hacking could do 2 things. Take one over so I can see what you see, or turn it into a bot to do denial of service attacks.
POE is just more convenient by only needing one wire.
