Carlisle Hotels - Which are Best?

Carlisle Hotels - Which are Best? - 02/04/21 01:27 PM

I've been going to Carlisle for a number of years and always stay at the cheapest, no frills Hotel/Motels. This year, I would like to stay at something more upscale, close to the fairgrounds, and a place that will have decent parking to accommodate my truck and car trailer. Any suggestions?

Close to the fairgrounds and nice really limits your options. The Holiday Inn Express and the Hampton Inn are going to be your best choices in this case with your need for trailer parking.

I used to stay at the Best Western right off the turnpike before I moved down here (work related)...not sure how it is now. Was really nice when it was new, but seemed to go down hill each year.

The Carlisle House Bed and Breakfast will check all the boxes except trailer parking. Top shelf accommodations within walking distance of the best restaurants and watering holes Carlisle has to offer. Tim and Caroline are the nicest people you will ever meet. 10 minutes to the fairgrounds.

My buddy and I take our wives and split on a double suite and when you factor in the gourmet breakfast, it's cheaper than most of the fleabags that call themselves hotels

Kevin - I checked out the website ant the rooms look great. My only concern is parking my 2500 Sierra and 24 foot trailer.

Just a suggestion-- give Thornwald mansion a call. You may be VERY surprised. Let us know!

One option is to leave your truck and trailer in the trailer lot just outside the fairgrounds. Parking is like $20 for the weekend and it has a security gate and officer. I always see a lot of trucks and trailers there while guys drive their cars for the weekend.

I have stayed at the not so Super 8 and the Econo Dump ( lodge ) both are not so great, last time ( 2019 ) I stayed at the Red Roof inn and they tried to rip me off by changing the price from when I booked to when I stayed. This year I booked the Sleep Inn a little south of the fair grounds we will see how that is, it says they have trailer parking if they don't the fair ground parking is a good alternative.

Try an AirBNB.

We always try those first before booking hotels.

I have a room at the Sleep Inn this year too. I have stayed here a couple times over the last couple years. It does have quite a bit of trailer parking. The rooms have always been very clean and there is a pretty good hangout crowd in the parking lot after returning from a long day at the fairgrounds. It also is a quick walk to restaurants for breakfast or dinner. I have stayed at a couple other places and this is at the top of my list besides the Comfort Suites downtown. The Comfort Suites is hard to get into as Carlisle productions puts all the special guests up there. The biggest issue I have is getting a room here as almost everybody books for the next year and I don't usually book that far out. But I suppose most of the hotels have that issue.

There was an awesome bnb that I stayed at for years !
And the guy retired frown .

Off the path , could take back roads into the fairgrounds
to beat the traffic . ( remember in 90’s- early 2000’s when it would take an hour
to drive and get in if your hotel was 5 minutes away ! )

Those were the days !

Id highly recommend a bnb !

Apparently my wife has a membership with Choice Hotels who owns Sleep Inn so we booked there. Thanks for everyone's input.

Close to fairgrounds, trailer parking and upscale are hard to find. We have stayed at 3 different hotels when we trailer down.
The Days Inn next to the sunoco station is always an adventure. Supposedly better since becoming a Days Inn but the reviews say no. Nice trailer parking out back.
We stayed at the Red roof just off 81 a few times. It closed a few years ago but reopened last year. Was really dirty the last time we stayed. Decent trailer parking.
The last 3-4 years we have stayed at the Quality Inn, 1450 Harrisburg Pike. Good trailer parking but the place seemed to struggle with the weekend crowd.
Friend stays at the Hampton Inn next to the PA turnpike. Limited trailer parking from what I have seen.
This year we reserved a room at the Hampton Inn in Mechanicsburg. Very nice hotel, they just renovated last year before being shut down by virus. Huge parking lot out front for trailer parking. 24 minutes from fairgrounds if you use the PA turnpike. It takes 10-15 from the other places we stayed at.
I did check the rates at the Days Inn since I have friends staying there and we wanted to hang out. Wednesday to Sunday was $910.00 Sheezz. Guess they are trying to make up for last year. Same four nights at Hampton Inn in Mechanicsburg $555.00. And it's 10x the hotel. For the $355 I'm saving I'll suffer through the extra 20-25 minutes of commuting to and from the fairgrounds each day.

Sounds like I made a good choice in booking the Sleep Inn plus its a little closer to South Mountain Raceway for their Friday evening Mopar race as one of the main reasons I go to Carlisle is to show and race my truck . I have always liked Hampton Inns and Holiday inn Express but found they fill up quick. I am only staying Friday night the last time I went in 2019 I stayed Saturday night and went to the fairgrounds Sunday and it was half empty.

I only have a block of 10 rooms at the Comfort Suites - and 10 rooms each at 2 other area hotels for a total of 30 rooms. I absolutely have to have them in order to guarantee a place for the special guests to stay. The Comfort Suites is the most accommodating to work with as far as holding rooms (we still pay what others pay). I don't really care where my guests stay as long as it's reasonably nice but I can honestly say that any time I put a guest at the Comfort Suites, if they ever come back, they specifically ask to stay at that hotel again! I don't really know what it is, but they all love it!

Quick story. Linda Vaughn is pretty well known for her ability to remember the people that she meets. She stayed at the Comfort Suites in 2018 for the Hurst Nationals. I brought her back again for a Hurst display in 2019 and she stayed at the Comfort Suites again. When I took her to the hotel to check in, they ALL remembered her by name (calling her Miss Linda and Miss Vaughn) and she remembered all of them by name. It was really cool to see.

Note to self: find new hotel for special guests laugh2
