NISSAN rental truck, UGH

Had to take the Ram 2500 in this morning to get a wheel bearing replaced. Yep, not as easy as it sounds. Its basically a $400 (retail) hub that needs to be pressed on an off with special tools (I watched the Youtubes). Not just pulling the rotor and hand packing some bearings.

The local Enterprise didn't have any DOMESTIC TRUCKS to rent while my truck is down. This is DETROIT. So they gave me a Nissan Frontier. What a POS. I've personally had Rangers, Colorados and Dakotas and all were much nicer that this thing. Sloppy, mushy steering. Sits lower than a Ford Focus. Mushy brake pedal. Dated interior. How do they sell these?
Reminds me one time I rented a VW Jetta (I think) about 10 years ago. After driving 10 miles down the highway I turned around and asked for a different car. The seats SUCKED. It was the most uncomfortable driving experience. No amount of adjustment could "fix" it.

When I used to travel for work I'd try different cars just to see how they drove; Challenger, Charger, Mustang, Camaro, Sequoia, Escalade, Corvette, etc

Frontier is ancient, its been the same since 04 (IIRC). There is a brand new one right around the corner though

Yeah, the Frontier in its current configuration has been around a LONG time.
My neighbor has one, a 2000 I think, and I've driven it; nothing special, but I didn't find it hateful.
It's a 2WD and with winter tires, he drives it 100 miles a day even in brutal winter conditions.
I briefly had a '98 Ranger, 2.3/stick, utterly gutless.
Only way to keep from getting run over was floor it and try to powershift it best I could.

I agree with your questioning of how Nissan sells any trucks. I have purchased two brand new Toyota trucks in my adult life. A 2000 Tacoma 4x4, and a 2017 4 Runner. When shopping for both of those vehicles, i also looked at the Nissan equivalent of those models. Totally NOT interested in the Nissan trucks and suvs.
My Toyota 4x4s have been flawless for how i use them - which is daily driver type use.

For heavy truck duty, I have a 2004 1 ton Cummins Dodge. Can't replace a sledge hammer with a jewelers hammer!

When I was regularly renting from the 'prize one Easter they were out of cars and I wound up with a Nissan truck to drive from Connecticut to Maryland. I hated it from the moment I took the wheel. Horrible gas mileage, Had to stop for fuel just into PA. When somewhere outside of Hershey PA the "check engine light" illuminated on the highway (probably 81). Anyways, pull off into a Love's truck stop and open the hood, check oil, etc. No obvious problem. GPS to nearest 'prize in Hershey. Out of cars. Harrisburg out too. After waiting for an hour of them bumbling around, I gave up and "chanced it" to Maryland. Next day I drive it to the local 'prize, complained about the light and stated I believed that something was wrong and wound up with a 2018 RAM 1500 with the 3.6 and 8 speed auto. It wasn't clean (local ordinance prevented car washing or something to that effect) and it wasn't cherry new either but I was much happier. Drove that RAM back to CT on one tank of gas and I wasn't mizering the throttle. The renting agency wasn't happy that I didn't call them first about the truck (they musta wanted that particular one Nissan back) but oh well. From that moment on I refused anything Nissan, Ford cars, Chevy Impala, Toyota's, and even a Mercedes and flat out requested Dodges. The staff couldn't believe I wanted Dodges which would've been Journeys. (And most of those had broken antennas which meant poor radio reception which particularly sucked on I-81 from Scranton to around Harrisburg.

The Frontier is the midsize -I had one - I agree not the most comfortable truck - but they are little tanks and run forever as it is a well proven platform long overdue for an upgrade- I have also owned four gas titans and two Titan XD's - current one is the 19- Cummins - XD platinum - best truck I have ever owned

Nice! I was a big fan of the Warrior concept truck and am glad to see it's design went into SOMETHING. I was expecting it to be the Titan, but I will settle for this. The interior looks good too.

It's a 100 times better looking than any other truck currently being produced.

I'm on my second new Murano since 2004 and these things have cost me a grand total of $9.00 in parts (other than oil changes) in a combined 280,000 miles. If the trucks are anything like their cars I would seriously consider one.

I do feel the OP's pain, the current Frontier sure isn't much to get excited about. My Nephew has one and the opinion is about the same as yours: "it's transportation".

I rented a Frontier in Anchorage Alaska - drove it all the way to Fairbanks and back, and Seward and back. Wasn't anything special but I certainly didn't mind it, I found it pretty conformable.

The really bad part about buying something from Toyota, Nissan and Honda is just the shear boredom of owning them. It is WAY more exciting to buy something made by a company like GM. You get to know the service department personnel on a first name-basis, you get to regularly purge your wallet of unwanted money and you get the shear joy of having to get a replacement vehicle way, way sooner. Why anyone would want to buy something dependable that requires so little maintenance is beyond me.

I rented a Nissan ROGUE during an east coast vacation last year (A week at the beach in Maine, mid summer, great time).

On the car, at first the main thing I liked was the high res backup camera. It was better than our Journey (but the car was a little newer too).

Alot I didn't like, but whatever....I could understand why some would be into it, but not me.
The "transmission" (?)...no thanks....

Anyway......

Most notable item:
It had been hit in the rear end, repaired and put back into service.

I could not only see the paint blend, but instead of ROGUE, whoever repaired it installed the letters incorrectly to spell ROUGE.

That turned out to be my favorite thing about this Nissan. The bad repair gave it character and added a funny detail to
the vacation. Now when the family sees one in traffic, it is an inside joke we can talk about.

For that one dumb reason I was glad I ended up with that particular Nissan.

You're from Detroit. You're supposed to ask for a DOMESTIC car I understand, even our Rams aren't as domestic as a Honda. I get it.

I always thought it funny that my brother in law that worked for Harley in PA never bought a domestic car. But he sure wanted Americans to buy a Harley.
