Do some flatscreen TVs need to be REbooted ? - 12/12/20 02:31 AM

.... or is my 50” Westinghouse toast ?

Happened tonite .... the volume just slowly goes to zero. I press the UP VOLUME..., it goes up - then down again. During about an hour playing with it ... the volume stayed where I put it maybe 10 minutes.

Works great ... other than that ... picture perfect

What da fugg ... shruggy hammer

If it keeps jacking up, get it to stick mid way and run an external speaker setup through the headphone jack and adjust sound through that.

Never, EVER... by a Westinghouse TV.

About as durable as a disposable lighter.

Don’t ask how I know! down

Hay Cs... tell me yur story !

I called Westinghouse customer service... they ran me through a reboot ....

Same/same ......

Kind of a bummer here ... perfect picture .... but no sound ... and that sound bar on the bottom of the screen won’t go away ...

I kinda get the idea that the TV is a throwaway?...??

Any suggestions on a new 50” plus ... ?

For me it's tough to beat the Samsung stuff. I have 2 55" smart 4k UHD units...they work flawless.

It seems like the best thing you can do is buy cheap so you're not upset when you have throw it out in 5-7 years.

Ok. 2 things. First, just for giggles, quickly set your volume and take out the batteries from your remotes. If no, then you have to remove the control panel and test the volume switch. The way your describing the problem, it sounds like a card issue, but you never know unless you dig in. Good luck.

My 90 year old Dad bought one from Wally World several years back. Lovable dear depression era guy that always tried to save a buck.

In less than a year, it would completely shut off anytime it was on 45 minutes or so.

Westinghouse and Wally World basically said “eat it”, or made return/warranty repairs so unrealistic that he just trashed it.

I don’t think you can go wrong with Samsung, LG, or Vizio. up

How does the Sanyo brand rate ?

I thought I saw a 70" Roku at Walmart for about $500. That is cheap. There should be some good sales for Christmas right now.

Roku ? ... which ones have the BESTest warranty?

I have a potential deal on a 40” Sanyo ... not SMART .., but brand new in the box

Might be new in the box but it is still a dated unit...most everything is smart now. Why are you going from a 50" to a 40"? Bestbuy has 50"+ Samsungs for $300ish. Hard to beat that. The one I just hung this summer was like $350 for a 55"

Check out CostCo...
They have some great prices and extended warranty plus bonus $$..
My preference brand is Sony...
Samsung and LG screens look good but their control HDMI CEC software is less compatible with other HDMI source components.

Just my $0.02... wink

Thx guyz ... this is for the bedroom... the 50 is actually a little too big.

So how much improvement has been done on these TVs since early 19 !

Roku is an operating system , streaming device for the internet

A lot of TVs now a days have Roku built into the TV

Roku does not make TVs

You can also buy Roku streaming sticks and add them to your TV if so equipped thru USB ports

All my TVs are Roku - Two have the operating system built in TCL TVs

All others have the Roku sticks because they where a bit older

They all connect to the wireless internet thru my house and stream TV that way - Think of the Roku as an internet antenna

No more satellite dishes - No more cables or boxes

I love it

Re: Do some flatscreen TVs need to be REbooted ? - 12/15/20 02:56 PM

Best bet is to use google, put in the tv name and size you want and then after the results come up, select "shopping". It will list all the prices and where to get it. I think most tv's have a year warranty and then you can add on up to 2 years usually through the manufacturer. It looks like 40" tvs are mostly under $250, unless you want a Sony or ultra 4K etc. As mentioned, Roku is a service but they sell tv's set up with it. You really want a smart tv, otherwise you will have to upgrade later with streaming sticks, use wires - cables, etc. as previously mentioned.

I have a 65" TCL I got at costco for about $450 almost 2 years ago. Its got its quirks but it has a great picture. We use apple TV to watch everything but the operating system on the TV works well also.

I just bought a new Sony that showed up last weekend. All the better name brand TVs were on sale for pretty much identical in prices for the same quality and size.

lol...mine's a bit electronically challenged so I put Firesticks on all our TVs. They all have the same remote, same menus, same functions, etc. Simplifies things and they work great!

I've been able to fix some volume problems just by going into menu and turning volume off and then back on and tv worked fine after that.
