Cool car. That little 4 popper with the manual trans was fun. Many a 1984/85 fire TURD with the 305 was surprised how quick the little Dodge was and how slow their firebird/camaro was.

It just needs some of those double-bladed, neon colored, "rally" windshield wipers that were a fad for a year or two...

Guy down the street put a neon pink set on his Buick Grand National. rolleyes

I had an 87 Lebaron GTC turbo back in 08' while in college. Really comfortable interior and that lil turbo would get after it. Flip up headlights too.

Re: The 80's - 12/12/20 03:09 AM

Car-wise, I was killin' it in the '80s...
'73 Z28 & '67 GTO
'73 1/2 911T
'89 Mustang 5.0
'68 Hemi 4 speed Road Runner
'68 383 RR - actually 2 including a parts car
'69 383 4-speed RRs (2)
'68 Charger 383 4-speed

Some came & went after a year, most hung around for many years, last of them until 2017...

For the most part, I'd go back if I could...

Re: The 80's - 12/12/20 03:11 AM

Ahhhh..... The 80s!
Machine repair job in the union factory, one of the top paying jobs in our town at the time!
A hot street racer 70 Road Runner.
An early 70s Ramcharger with a snowplow.
A mid 70s Dodge 4x4 to tow the car trailer.
A 78 Dodge Monaco, what a pile of crap!
A turbocharged Lebaron GTS, we drove it over 160K miles!
And an endless stream of Mopar dirt track hobby stock cars, all funded by a robust Mopar used parts selling operation.
Until about the last 15 or so years, it was about the best 10 years of my life! Gene

Picked this up 83 with 95k on the clock, daily driver for at least 15 years / 200,000 miles. Been parked in "I'll get back to it" condition for about 10 yrs. I tried buying a few things Detroit was pushing but just couldn't.

I had a few cool rides in the '80's, ordered a notchback 5.0 5-speed Mustang in '87, had a few other interesting cars in that decade, only a few Mopars and none of them all that noteworthy. It was really the decade I was working my ass off to get somewhere so not a lot of play money. I did buy & sell a lot of cars just to generate cash but I don't really count those. I've been rocking the '69 LeSabre since 1981 and still have it. A Gulf blue 1971 911 was my single-guy daily driver. Sold it when I got married in '84 to free up some money. My wife recently mentioned that I should get another one like it so I showed her what they are going for now$$$$. That won't be happening...

Had a 77 Streetvan to start the 80's, moved into a $100 77 New Yorker that needed a timing chain. Moved across the country in that beast and and then traded it for an 86 Charger

Re: The 80's - 12/13/20 04:27 AM

The 80s started on an interesting note. March 1, 1980 I broke my back, but that one stupid move on my part led to my meeting my wife, moving to Silicon Valley, buying our '68 GTS convertible, having two sons, and making several lifelong friends.

Late in 1980 I bought my first Barracuda, a 1966 Commando, four speed, disc brake, and handling package car that was NOT a Formula S.
After we got married (May 1, 1982) we bought the GTS (January 26, 1983)
Bought our first new car mid-December 1985 (1986 Reliant)
Bought and flipped a 1964 300K (the only car I really wish I could have kept that I sold)

Re: The 80's - 12/15/20 06:23 PM

My high school ride was my mom's Aspen wagon and then had a '75 Newport in '82 and '83..then in '84 I bought a '69 300 convertible, from my dad's co-worker at Chrysler Corp. Used it as a daily driver for the first two years, then brought it to a local body shop for a restoration. Kept it until around late 1992. The rest of the 80's, I had a 1969 Dart, 1983 2.2 Turismo, a '79 300, and a '79 D250 2WD club cab long bed..."Big Green". My brother currently owns the '69 300.

Re: The 80's - 12/16/20 01:00 PM

My first car was a hand-me-down 64 Impala I got around 81. Step dad bought it brand new and the thing was cherry. It was also a 4 dr, 6 cyl, 3 tree. The worst part about that was no syncro for 1st gear which means ya gotta be at a dead stop to down shift it. Interesting on steep hills.

The Red is 94 Viper red. The RC is Sable Sunfire Metallic. Todays "driver" will be this one that I rattle canned Inferno Red:

Knew this guy in high school that had one of those that was a 2WD. Took it behind the local Kroger driving through ATV trails with Power Man 5000 cranked on the radio. Got it high centered on a hill when a couple of four wheeler guys found and laughed their asses off at us before leaving us to our stupidity. Had three guys with us and we were able to seesaw it to the point where the drive wheels got traction and finish driving over the hill. Ended up finally making it through the trail and meeting up with the four wheeler guys again who were shocked we actually made it out. High school was a blast.

1977: mom wants a new car, it's a dodge family. Local shop is trying hard to peddle an Aspen. My 14 yr old ass goes and looks for something cool to sit it. Wanna say it was a 71 but am absolutely sure metallic blue Charger super bee air grabber 4 sp. No doubt a straight up bargain in the day and I did as good at selling mom on it as they did the Aspen.

Re: The 80's - 12/19/20 06:05 PM

Sunroofcuda, when I would ride my bike to middle school early mornings, there was an identical one always parked in the street in front of a house, just a few houses off one of the streets I rode on. I'd always look down the street to see it. The back end was facing me, and I loved seeing that car, and the dual exhausts, and just everything. Knowing it had the HP 360, I thought it was the best thing every! Still would love to have one to this day! I've had the pleasure of owning one E58 car in my A38 Aspen, and that only reinforced my love that engine!
