Put black electrical tape over half of your iPhone screen like I do in my Chevy Malibu to cover up the warning lights.

I resorted to duckduckgo and it killed infolinks but those stupid PurpleAds are still there. Moparts was almost unviewable on Google Chrome!

I use Chrome and added the extension Adblock Plus. I don't get any pop ups, unless you are referring to the ads on the top and bottom of screen.

The easiest and best way (at least for android) is to use the free browser called Brave. I use that, it works very well, and there is zero ads or pop ups. Moparts works flawlessly on Brave. And it is all private. You download it free from the play store.

On my desktop I'm running Edge with adblock plus, no popups, my tablet and phone are a different story though.

I phone here, did the ad block and it worked, only recently the new ones that appear in the bottom corners have showed up. Only on this site though. Just looked, ‘purple adds’ it’s called.

Can the owners of the site control this?

I use duckduckgo as my web browser. That got rid of most popups. You have to get rid of old icons though , then search for each site through duck duckgo and add the shortcut back on through duckduckgo only. Then there is no tracking unless you go on a google owned website.

He certainly can, he signed up for it. He seems to care more about revenue than the usability of the site. In my view this is short sighted. But his site his calls.

Through various tools I have been able to eliminate every thing but the "purple" ads.

What was most annoying before I was able to fix it was the screen jumping around. It was like trying to play "whack a mole" to open a message.

It may be my imagination but I think traffic is down and some valued contributors no longer come to the site. I don't think it is reasonable or a sustainable business model to expect the users of a site to jump through hoops just to be able to easily use the site.

The ads are honestly the main reason I'm not very active on here anymore. Ads killed Yellowbullet too

I would spend as much time as I did in the early 2000's if it weren't for the pop-ups and herky jerky movement the pages are always doing. just gets old real fast. I'm sure it keeps the site alive albeit working against it.

Yep, even trying to type this response my screen moved down for an ad.

I understand that ads help pay for the site but like most other people here I think its doing more harm than good. A lot of people just stopped coming here because the ads are literally all over the place. It sucks because there's a lot of very knowledgeable people leaving for a situation that could be remedied easlily

just my 2 cents

Using Firefox 83 with AdBlocker Ultimate on a win7 machine

Zero ads whatsoever

Quit complaining and install adblocker plus. It's free and works. It costs a good penny to run this site and member contributions won't work.. shruggy

Adblocker does work on this site, so Stumpy is spot on. I tried it years ago and well, lets just say it works now.

If it was as me I would charge the guys running a parts business through the classified ads a monthly fee. Most of them are here to sell parts anyway. If they left we would never miss them.

Probably nothing towards your bills!

I would not be opposed to paying for an add free version of Moparts but I don't think that model will work. I am not opposed to advertising on this site but I think selling selling advertising that in intrusive and make the site hard to use is short sighted.

To be clear: I expect no-one to pay my bills but myself.

I think you are 100% correct that a "pay for use" model would never work....most people have become too used to getting "free stuff" on the internet...particularly entertainment/leisure activities.

I also agree that the infolinks thing is a pain in the ass, especially on a phone. But the last time this particular topic came up, I'm pretty sure we were told that "less intrusive" options don't generate enough revenue to keep the engine running, and that the previous google ads we had here had become even more intrusive so what we have now is the lesser of available evils. Maybe it doesn't bug me as much because I don't come here all that much anymore....but that has more to do with some of the truly toxic people than it does the ads. shruggy
