I always liked the 71 B bodies and have owned both. Just curious what the members here think. Given identical powertrains, colors and options, which would you rather own?

Road Runner. Have owned several. A few Dodges too be really like the lines and shorter looking nose of the Plymouths.

The Plymouth's styling is just so much more refined and balanced that it's design is still contemporary, the Dodge is merely a 2 litre coke bottle on wheels IMHO

I think they both were hideous. Nobody used them in the movies in any great numbers either. Plenty of other 68-70 B body cars in the movies.

Don't think that was the question. If you don't like either car why post on this thread? Why are so many people now days so eager to voice their hate? That is like going to CA and then telling everyone there that I hate CA and everyone that lives there, which I don't. Whoopsie do about movie cars. A 71 Hemi RR will bring more money than a 68-70 Hemi B body.

71/72 Plymouths are some of my favs ever. I don't like the quarter glass opening shape on 71/72 Chargers and the higher height for that area ( hence why I like 73/74 Chargers with bigger opening and lower stance for the body lines there ), so my election is pretty simple and obvious.
now... 71 or 72 Plymouth... I like the 72 RR grill more than the rest, and I think likes more the 72 Bumper shape too than 71 ( which it looks like was kicked into the ass LOL ). So even the options are on 71s I'd have to stuck with it, but if was 72... mmmmm with 71 sidemarkers
( actually I like more the 73/74 RR rear bumper than 72s )

Plymouth, And even then it would have to be a color / drivetrain and options combination that's pops my buttons.
The Charger never has done much for me
There are cars MUCH higher on my like list to buy one

moparmarks - Completely Agree. Hateful people need to peddle their unwelcome remarks somewhere else. BTW, didn't Daisy Duke drive a '72 RR? Except for wing cars, the '71 Hemi B body cars usually bring about 50% more to double their 68-70 counterparts. I like all muscle cars actually. The 71 B body mopars though could be ordered with all the best options Chrysler had to offer. Hemi and six pack motors, pistol grips, air grabber/ ram charger hoods, slap stik, front and rear spoilers, high impact colors, rear window louvers, rubber bumpers, cassette player, hood pins, 15 inch rallyes, cruise control - did I miss any? Hell, I once owned a brown '71 Charger with hide away headlights that had tiny headlight wipers and squirters ala Mercedes Benz. Some of these options were carried through to the '72 model year but most disappeared after 1971. For me, '71 was the height of Mopar excellence for all body styles.

Back in the 70's my first car was a 69 Charger R/T and I didn't really like the 71-up B's. A chick here had a 71 Charger R/T N96 car and I use to tease her about her hood. When we raced I told her "you better open your little door" .
Then in the early 90's I bought two 71 Satellite Sebring Plus cars and fell in love with them. With their wider track they handle and ride so much better than the earlier cars. Have owned around 20-30 71-2 B's since. I still love the 68-70 B's and own a 69 RR which is one of my favs but a 71 Hemi RR is one of my bucket list cars.

When I was a teenager looking for my first muscle car, I wanted a 70 roadrunner. Went to look at a 71 and fell in love with the body style. Have always owned at least one since. The 71 Chargers are nice, but the body style just doesn't do as much for me as the Plymouth.

I have a 72 Charger but I just really like a 71-72 Roadrunner a little more. The Charger is sleek and looks fast, the Roadrunner is bold and stocky like a bulldog.

I’ve yet to own a Plymouth so I’d go with a 71 Bee based on that. I also love 71 chargers so for me it’s an easy decision. I would really like a 69 road runner someday so I have nothing against owning Plymouth’s.

I love both, but I'm a little biased in that I owned a 71 Charger R/T Hemi from 1980-1984. I'd have to go with the squashed-frog (Charger). *My old business partner called the 71-4 Chargers "squashed frogs." RIP RHK.

If I was NASCAR racing, it would be the 71 Bee, hands down, but since I'm not NASCAR racing, I like the shape and styling of the 71 & 72 RR much better. My wife and I owned a 72 Satellite Sebring Plus for 7 years, it was one of the better cars we had in our younger days. Gene

I like the Plymouth front half, but the decklid and rear bumper are kinda boring in comparison. A go wing and the strobe stripes over the roof do some good.
Charger is ok, but the front end is a tad long for my taste. All the outside parts on the Charger look like a designer spent time detailing them and making them all come together.

There's a a guy I see on instagram that has shortened the nose of '72 Chargers and I think it looks sooooo much better. I don't know how much he removes, but it really tightens things up without looking like it was punched in the face.

I found a smaller photo of the car at it's first show. I think everything flows nicely on the car. Interior is about 75% finished. Also a good friend of mine had a base '71 charger (318/air/column auto) during college years we used to bomb around in. He used it all year long so eventually the Illinois salt got to it.

I got to go BEE all the way. My first car was a 71 bee, have a decent one sitting for a resto that I will probably die before its even started, but I still have one.
Who buys a one year old N96 Bee and that same week guts the hood for a cheap pro stock scoop.

Road Runner for me. I love the swoopy aero styling of the Plymouths of that era.
The Dodges of that era simply don't do it for me. I have tried to like them, but I just can't. The 69 Superbee is one of my favorite cars. But in 70 they hit it with the ugly stick. Then in 71 they hit it again.....

Re: Which Would you Rather Own, 71 Roadrunner or 71 Superbee? - 11/16/20 05:22 PM
Not that my opinion matters, but:
To me, the Charger looks a bit too long forward of the front wheel, and the side marker placed too high on the fender.
The RR tail lights & markers look a bit too busy, and the grille pattern not very interesting.
That said, I like the overall shape of both, though they look larger than their preceding body styles; especially the Charger.
Of that era I prefer the '72 RR, as it looks cleanest to me in base form without all the stripes, wing & boomerangs.
Heck, I wouldn't even want the Air Grabber.

This has been an interesting read for me. I don't know if I can be truly objective on this one. I was always into cars for as long as I can remember but the first Mopar that caught my eye was a neighbor's '71 Charger R/T 440 in FC7 (although it was in red oxide primer since the first time I saw it). I loved it and I was probably about 10 or 12 at the time. When I was 16, I started trying to buy it but it wasn't for sale. Then during Spring or Fall Carlisle (I forget which) he advertised it in the local paper for $800. I went to buy it and he upped the price to $1000. Being in high school, I needed time to pull the other $200 together. I went back with $1000 and now he wanted $1200. Ugh!! Before I could get $1200 together, a "friend" bought it out from under me. He bought it as a flip and it went to NY. I haven't seen it since. Anyway, that will always be "The One That Got Away" for me
I just don't know if I can get THAT car out of my head to be totally honest with myself as to which one I like better. I definitely wouldn't say no to a '71/'72 Road Runner or GTX

I purchased interior panels from a guy up in Canada about 5+ years ago. He advertised in MCG and his e mail address included something like "Pink AAR Cuda" in it. Other blue stuff came from Jimmy Boros . I re-used original dash frame and used paint from Mancini(?). Carpet is ACC. Headliner and seat covers are Legendary. Legendary makes new upper/lower panels for '71-'74 B bodies. Lots of other used swap meet items and new from Mega, Van's, Classic, and Year One. Manual steering/ floor shift column came from Norm's and I re-painted it. All new M&H wiring harness from Year One. I'll probably remember a thousand more items after sending this out, but thanks for the good words.

I have had a couple of '71 GTXs,a '72 Sebring and a '71 Charger. The Charger was kinda different, it was a loaded SE with a 383 Magnum and 4 speed. I haven't ever cared much for those years Charger, but that car was so cool and in great shape, that I thought it would grow on me. But no, I just couldn't learn to love the shape. But I did make money on that car when I sold it.
Had that been a '71 Sebring trimmed like that rather than a Charger, I would still have the car. A really great combo.
Mopar kinda screwed the pooch in a number of ways with the 71 Chargers to me.

I really like both for 1971. For me, the Super Bee just edges out the RR by a tiny bit. In my eyes, the Charger has just a little bit more of a classy exterior look. I sure wouldn't mind having one of each, but my wallet says I can't have either LOL
