Spies (special patrol insertion/extraction). The Army tried to revive the long range reconnaissance/patrol units but unfortunately they were mishandled and are basically gone again.

Lrrp is Vietnam era. Only strings (ropes) I can think of are the picture above (spie), descending a rope (frie), or tie around them (tunnel rat) and lrrp weren’t tunnel rats.

Was in one of the units. The LTC’s never could figure out how to use the whole unit effectively. Mine was resistant to learn more than battle drill 6, which defeated the whole long range part, the reconnaissance part, and the patrol part...
