I Hate FedEx

I Hate FedEx - 10/31/20 05:11 PM

I live on 10th St NE in my little one horse town. For years, about half the time FedEx has dropped my packages off at 10th Ave NE and when I discovered this their reply always was that I had to file a claim. Luckily in a small town I could just go over and retrieve my packages. No amount of complaining has ever changed the way FedEx handles my address so I tell anyone shipping anything to me to NOT use FedEx. Well, I bought some material from a firm that uses only FedEx. So I stressed to the representative that it has to be 10th St NE.

Guess what? Last night I get a call from FedEx (caller ID) with no one on the other end. They were trying to send a text message to a landline. So I call them back and the representative tells me that they have a package addressed to....wait for it....10th Ave NE. I lost it and started chewing on the representative with great vigor. After ranting we hung up and I settled down a bit. About ten minutes later another representative from FedEx calls me about the same item. I told here this has happened before and I'm getting tired of it. So, in a snotty condescending tone she proceeds to tell me that I should be more precise in giving FedEx an address. Now I'm screaming at her.

Did I mention I hate FedEx?

Yet, around here, FedEx is much, MUCH better than UPS. I am in charge of shipping/receiving at my job. We can ship things FedEx clear up to CANADA without incident, but we can't ship by UPS 300 miles to San Antonio. We use what the buyer insists. Last shipment destroyed by UPS (on a pallet mind you) looked like it had been dropped and run over. Acrylic pieces the same size as a standard 2X4 stud had been carefully packed yet they managed to break over half of them. Think about how hard it is to break a 3ft long 2X4 and you'll get the idea.

And this isn't the first time its happened, but the buyer won't switch.

You might consider trying to be nice and decent person before you complain about others.

The people you are dealing with are on a career level where they do not deserve to be treated poorly.

When it comes to FedEx, that's how one generally starts: polite....but I could write a book on the stupidity that one deals with regarding FedEx "career level" employees, I ship quite a few items weekly/monthly, FedEx is absolutely the worst company to deal with, I hate the customer that insists on FedEx only, nothing ever goes right....and it's not from my end, I deal with USPS, UPS, DHL, and various truck freight companies across the US and overseas without a hitch

I'm not advocating for treating others poorly, no one deserves it, and it's clear 6PakBee has treated this situation politely before.

The problem started with the company selling their product not recording the address correctly.

The problem continued with the second call from FedEx. What about the FedEx rep's choice to speak condescendingly to a customer? Not a smart move.

Neither of those were caused by 6PakBee.

Re: I Hate FedEx - 10/31/20 08:56 PM

The very first thing I would do is to contact your local post office and verify EXACTLY what your local USPS office list as your home address. Sounds dumb but this happened to us for years when we first moved to a 150-+year old house that even on our title/deed, county auditor's info, and street sign, etc., did NOT match what USPS had for our mailbox address. UPS seemed to get packages to us more times than FEDEX but that was mostly because the UPS driver knew the area or the situation with the multiple address names for our road, I mean STREET. We had never seen or heard of a rural country "road" called a "street". Here's how it started when we bought the house and moved in over 30-years ago.

The title/deed read (example) 1234 Rivers Road and that's what the sign at the beginning of the dead end ROAD that ended at another farm house 2-tenths away read. So we listed our address for years as RiverS (plural) Road, Then one day the "street: sign was changed to River (singular) Road. A few years go by and all of a sudden the sign is changed to Rivers Street ????? and for sure FEDEX packages are showing up at an address in a larger town about 10 miles away at Rivers Street. I had an urgent next day Saturday FEDEX delivery that disappeared on tracking and found out that they went by the default USPS address when packages may have an incorrect address. We contact our USPS and they have and have had our address listed for (ever) decades as RIVER STREET, no S, not a ROAD as one would expect for a rural address but singular RIVER and yep a STREET.

So after that long winded useless story do yourself a favor and confirm what the United States Postal Service USPS has as your OFFICIAL mailing and shipping address.......then go after their butts flame hammer

BTW many of the locals still call it RIVERS ROAD wink laugh2 can't teach old dogs new address or is that old original addresses grin

No, that is not a stupid suggestion and yes, I did this when the first screw up with FedEx occurred. My street address is the one listed with the USPS. And yes, if this had been the first time I'd have been considerably more gracious and understanding. BUT, when this has happened multiple times, FedEx's solution was for ME to file a claim rather than taking care of it themselves, and finally the representative basically accusing me of being unable to communicate my address to others? Sorry, I do not feel I am required to tolerate the repeated stupidity of others.

Re: I Hate FedEx - 10/31/20 09:49 PM

To the OP, I'm not surprised. I have been using FedEx since 2002 & send all my domestic packages via them, mostly all without a hitch - sounds like I have been lucky. Multiple things I notice, is they will charge a rural address delivery fee at their own discretion - it adds either $3.65 (DAS Resi), or $4.65 (DAS Extended Resi), PLUS Fuel Surcharges on every shipment. I'm looking at a bill right now - two packages going to the same customer in CA - one is $3.15, the other is $1.44 for the fuel surcharges. Stuff like this adds up to MILLIONS of dollars for them every year, & I guarantee you they can "justify" all their charges. UPS & FedEx are monopolies basically. Other thing that really burns me is the way they handle (or don't handle) claims that are over $100.00. If they damage something & your claim is over $100.00, it's not their fault - no matter what. It's YOUR fault - "improper packaging." If you Google this, you'll find they do it to everybody. If you don't agree with them, you can pound sand. THEY DO NOT CARE!

I would blame your city. Why the hell would you have a 10th Ave NE and a 10th street NE. Seems pretty stupid. Kind of like the way Miami streets are named. As for FedEx though? Yeah they suck. Worst company to deal with. But your address stuff is just dumb.

If I remember correctly, Phoenix is that way too. You have 'central' then everything West is an Ave and everything East is a street.

I kinda liked it, but I wasn't delivering packages either.

Re: I Hate FedEx - 11/01/20 01:29 AM

Maybe it would help to have "Street" completely spelled out rather than abbreviated.10th Street NE rather then 10th ST NE. The driver is delivering 100s of packages a day and is probably only glancing at the address. With the Street completely spelled out, he may give it a little longer glance and get it where it needs to go. Gene

Council Bluffs Iowa has the same system.

Avenues run East/West
Streets run North/South.

So you can have 123 5th Ave
or 123 5th St

Re: I Hate FedEx - 11/01/20 08:07 PM

Between fedex and ups and mopar dealerships poor packing ive had 4 of the last 5 packages show up damaged, beat to hell and one just an empty box, bent and ripped open.

So im pretty FED-UP. But really in my case it the mopar dealerships thinking metal parts in the cheap, thin, zero packing material boxes are going to make it through the big shipping loads and rough handlers.

Does anyone know if a driver has to spent a minute or two while you open a box to make sure the parts ok or can they just dump and run? If you ask them?

USPS has been the best as far as I am concerned. Fed Ex next. UPS good service but they continue to smash about every box I receive.

Re: I Hate FedEx - 11/02/20 03:04 AM

I don’t ship a lot of stuff, but when I do I usually use USPS as there is a post office 500’ from my house, and I have never had an issue.
Interestingly, I have a friend who is a FedEx pilot and he says he flies a lot of USPS loads, as USPS contracts with them for a lot of their shipping. work

I get shipments form UPS, FedEx, USPS, DHL, Old Dominion, Southeastern Freight Lines and ABF Freight.

Zero problems with any of them.

Your problem isn't FedEx, per se. Its the local management. You need to go up the chain of command till you get it resolved.

I have been using FedEx and USPS exclusively and can honestly say I've "never" had an issue with either outgoing or incoming in 20 yrs,as for UPS,I wouldn't give them the time of day but that's just me. twocents

You ever try to talk to anyone at FedEx to get a problem solved? Most frustrating experience ever for absolutely no help. And don't call back because the system won't let you back in.

Re: I Hate FedEx - 11/02/20 07:17 AM

I would call the local Fed Ex office, express, ground or freight, which ever one your these having issues with and ask to talk to a customer service manager and ask them to help you resolve their problem with your address. Many states and county and city will have both streets, roads and avenues with both numbers and letters with the same name except the last part
Utah towns and cities are famous for that shruggy My grandma lived on 7st street N/E and her town had a 7Th. NE avenue on the other side of the main road that divided the town from east to west and letter streets and avenues on the north to south of the other main road for that confused shruggy
I ran into a Fed Ex delivery guy who is a sub contractor for both Fed Ex express and Fed Ex Ground, he covers a area east of where I live that is right at 100 miles N.to S. and about the same east to west in mostly very low density ranching and farming area of eastern Oregon along Hwy 395 from about twenty miles north of Lakeveiw, OR north to Prineville, OR and east to west from Hwy 395 west to about twenty miles east Oregon of Hwy 97. That is a really big area for one man to cover scope
It sounds like your route guy needs some one to one instruction from his boss on finding your address from now on twocents scope

Re: I Hate FedEx - 11/02/20 08:34 PM

Well, just to make sure I'm not delusional (some days I wonder) I went down to the post office this morning and talked to the Postmaster. I asked her what is my official address in the USPS data base. Answer, my PO box because I do not get residential delivery. I then asked if the USPS has my physical address. Yes, in my case that is what the USPS considers a secondary address and it is 10th ST NE.

A number of you have recommended contacting FedEx and I think I'll do that. I don't believe the problem is with the driver because the address labels say 10th Ave NE. We'll see how I do.

BTW, did I mention I hate FedEx?

Time to blow a gasket.... I had a set of rims due today via fedex.

I got one rim today, the others were 150 miles away, last scan just shows them in Florida 1800 miles away.

Fed Ex rep who may be in a Asian country tells me what im seeing in there system is wrong and started with the high volume and covid crap. But that dont explain one rim arriving today and now the other 3, 1800 miles away?

Im really hating fed ex!

Re: I Hate FedEx - 11/04/20 03:51 AM

The last package that FedEx screwed up was from a Moparts member who sold me some parts. So I PM'd him up and verified that, yes, he did give FedEx my correct address. Even watched them enter it into their computer. So I call up FedEx, told them the problem, gave them the tracking number of the package, related the entire situation to him that FedEx WAS given the correct address and changed it internally. Much to my surprise no arguing, no deflection, the agent said he will correct their records and that should prevent it from happening again.

As Bruce Willis put it "We'll see".

Re: I Hate FedEx - 11/04/20 07:56 AM

I use Fedex mainly, but some customers prefer UPS so they get about 10% of the business. International it's DHL all the way for both inbound and outbound. I rarely use USPS. All services have their ups and downs. Some of it depends on the location. Covid is creating a mess, too.

I got a pacakge (fedex) the other day that was addressed to a lady in a city 30 miles away. Her address was perfect - they just delivered it to me. When I tracked it, it showed as "in transit" - so they never scanned it at my house and had no idea that it was with me.

I wrote a big note on it that said "PLEASE RE-DELIVER TO CORRECT ADDRESS -- SHIPPER AND RECIPIENT HAVE BOTH BEEN NOTIFIED" and gave it back to Fedex. After a couple of days, they delivered it to the right address.

Once Fedex incorrectly coded 5 boxes going to Trinidad and Tobago as "IT" instead of "TT" and they ended up going to Italy and getting stuck in customs there. It took 3 weeks and at least 10 phone calls for the goods to finally make their way to Trinidad.

UPS just straight up negligently breaks things and refuses to pay up - their insurance is useless.

USPS loses packages and their tracking is awful.

Luckily, these stories are the exceptions and things go pretty smoothly with almost every shipment. Did I just jinx myself?

Exactly what I was going to say. for a "one horse town" to have similar addresses the blame lies with having idiots naming streets, who never had to find an address as part of their job. I hope you never have a medical emergency and get a frazzled, or new 911 dispatcher.

I would be asking your government about renaming some streets. Explain if its confusing for Fedex, it will be tragic for public safety needs.

My shop address is 110 Division St.

The street signs still say Division Ave, which is a vestige of the old terminology which changed in the 1980s.

I'm surprised it doesn't cause problems, even in my small town.

I hate FEDEX too!

Right now I have a package in Moon Township, PA that hasn't moved for a week. I ordered broadheads and fletches from Cabela's. The broadheads showed up on time. Fletches, no such luck. I call (India?) and they begin to rattle off excuses: Damage from Hurricane Zeta. "No ma'am. If that were the case, the other half of my shipment wouldn't have arrived." Sometimes different containers...: "OK, so you have 2-day shipping items in containers that haven't moved for a week?" Well, sir, can I have your email so you can get automatic updates?" NO, UPDATES DON'T GET MY ITEM TO MY HOUSE! Who can get me a straight answer?" I really wanted to cuss someone up, but she was just the jerk on the other end of the phone that gets paid to rattle off excuses. I just hung up. It's not like I'm destitute without these fletches, but I'd REALLY like to have them. Dealing with FEDEX is VERY frustrating...

Re: I Hate FedEx - 11/21/20 05:08 PM

Oh boy, I know the frustration. I run the shipping for my work. Boss WILL NOT use Fed Ex ever again after last year. We sent some inventory to our sister location in the UK. $600 worth of product hung up in Paris, customs would not clear it. Fed Ex calls him and says they are sending it back, freight will be due upon arrival. He says keep it, not paying $1400 shipping for $600 in product. They sent anyway, delivery guy got an earful!

My experience has been that it depends on the individual, some guys actually care, some don't. Talked with our regular UPS guy enough to know what they do every day. People order sectional couches and these guys are expected to haul it up 3 or 4 flights of stairs. The top brass only cares about the profits.

We do make sure things are packed and wrapped well, as the boss agrees with me that it's cheap insurance to spend $$ on packaging than re-sending stuff after taking a call from a pissed off customer.

I also know they are hiring massively because of covid, turnover and the holidays. Seen lots of noobs coming and going lately
