Radial T/A Tires?

Radial T/A Tires? - 10/13/20 04:12 PM

First of all, I don't drive my challenger nearly as much as I would like, but my first set of tires are fast approaching 15 years in age, and while they look fine, I don't want to deal with any unnecessary safety issues.

Any places to look for good deals on Radial TA's other than the usual such as discounttire or tirerack, etc? What else is out there that you have had good experience with?

Car is a '72 Challenger with a mild 340. I'm planning to make a roughly 1000 mile drive with it hopefully within the next year, as I've moved out of state and it is still in my parents garage.

Thank you!!!

Take a look at the Mickey Thompson S/T tire.

I like them a lot better than the BFG radial T/A's

I put a set of Mickey's S/T's on my Challenger last fall.

I like the T/A's, but opted not to buy a raised "brown" letter tire... whistling

Take a look at the Cooper Cobra too.

I've been running the Cooper Zeon summer tires on a Mustang, very grippy.
Switched my Road Runner over to their Radial GT, also a nice tire (15" sizes).
Not sure if the Firestone Indy 500s are still made, but those were fine on a Duster I had 15 years ago.
Bonus for Cooper is they're American; and my local tire shop is great to deal with even on tires they didn't sell me.

I put Michelins on everything I own when it comes time for new tires.

A bit more pricey but definitely worth the money, imo.

I put a set of the Coopers Cobras (white letters) on my Cuda about a year before I sold it and I was happy with them, before that the car always had BFG T/A’s (for about 15 years). At the time I needed replace the tires I decided on the Coppers because I did not want to deal with all the issues of brown lettering that everyone was complaining about.

I have been running Cooper Cobras on all three of my trucks, the oldest being for 7 years. (I drive each about 3000-5000 miles a year).

All are doing great, no cracking, and tire wear is excellent.

My 92 Dakota is my primary driver and gets driven year round. The Coopers do fine in wet and cold. Not so much in snow. But they aren't designed to.

I looked for some Michelins for 15" wheels and couldn't find any. I found a few 16", but most are in the 18" range. I'm not putting 18" wheels on my car. Guess that means no Michelins for me.
Not going to be any TAs either. Gene

Here also, brown also sucked, and after acouple years , the rubber got hard, wet , damp roads, sliding thru intersections upon a stop, screw this, found out Michelons was the manufactures, nough said , they SUCK!, hard tire.. they are junk!!!

Does Michelin still sell musclecar sized 14" and 15" tires?

That would be big news!

Michelin Defenders are available in some 15" sizes. Depends on what size you need though.

Ive not had a set of BFGs go over 4 years without cracking between the tread on every tire and these are always parked indoors out of the sun.

I have 2 sets of T/A's that are over 20 years old and I still run them.

As usual, if anyone is throwing out tires because you found a little crack or they are "too old"; send 'em to me: I'll use them.

14" tires are getting hard to find unless you need small sizes.
no 225's in any brand i could find.
slim choices in 205' and 215's.
tons of 185's.
i didn't look for 60 series, although i wonder what the biggest size of those are available ?
i forgot to add, this search was for reasonable price 70 series radials, not high price reproduction sizes.
a year or so ago, i gave away all my 14" wheels. ralleys, aluminum slots, and steel wheels. i didn't even look at date codes.
