Infrared Laser Thermometer. What One?

Just to check things like brake rotors, and things like that.i also have a dental oven I may use to powder coat small items.
So want one to do things like check trays lead fishing weights I will coat and cook etc

All depends on temp range and how accurate you need it. I have a $10 Amazon special I use with my RC cars and a few other things around the house...works fine. I also have ones at work that we use to measure cat converter temps,etc.....cost a couple hundred bucks.

Cheapest work as long as they are consistent. You don't use them for finding one or two degree differences. If you're trying to hit 400 degrees 395 to 405 is usually fine.
They're best suited for finding appreciable temp swings. Absolute accuracy takes a back seat to repeatability.

You have to keep in mind that not all objects reflect the rays the same so depending what you're checking the reading can be off by some. Many have an adjustment but I never worried about it, I figured as long as I was within 10* it was fine. They've come in down in price BIG TIME over the past 40 years. The gun-type that were around $500 way back are now under $100 and I bought one a while back on sale for under $50. For a long time I used a smaller one I'd bought for around $30 to check tire temps. I was worried about the accuracy so much as consistency - I didn't care if it was off by 10* as long as it was always off by that amount.

I bought the Fluke 62Max about a month ago to monitor my nitrous bottle temp and make sure the heater was working properly. I found myself using it for all kinds of stuff.

Very happy with it's performance and it has the dual lasers.

I got it at cost for $105.

Fun thing to try when you get one: Point it into the night sky.

To get an accurate measurement, put a piece of flat black tape on whatever you are monitoring.

Interesting that the “inner canthus of the eye” is a hot spot and a better area to measure human temperature at than the forehead.

I knew that the forehead was relatively cool, and had been measuring under the jaw at the spot where a finger tip can feel the pulse.
