Green treated lumber

I have a 2x8 and a 2x10. What I need is a 2x6. If I rip them down to the size I need is the "new" exposed edge no longer considered green treated? Local store is all sold out of the 2x6. Just trying to use up what I have laying around

The treatment doesn't penetrate the wood completely from all sides so once you rip the 2x8 to 2x6, the side you cut won't be treated.

You should be able to buy the treatment and brush it on the exposed side.

What you need is either Zinc Naphthenate or Copper Naphthenate. The copper will be green in color if matching is important. Many different brands available.

Thompsons Water Seal works great and is a lot less harmful to your health. That green "End Cut Treatment" is not friendly to most living creatures.

I thought the point of "pressure treated" was that solved that penetration issue. I have yet to see much of a color difference with viewing a cross section of cut to length PT board.
Are we talking about "new" eco friendly treated wood?

The green brush on copper/arsenic treatments I believe are no longer available for sale to the public, or very restricted.

My thinking was, the OP had no real concerns to be worried about.

Based on my experience, the pressure treatment penetrates the surface just enough so that it looks good from the outside. But once a cut is made, you'll see the untreated inner section.

All I can say is, if you cut a pressure treated board, you might want to seal that cut with similar treatment to hold off the rot as long as possible.

I built a construction skid sign out of PT wood years ago and after one winter the wood touching the ground was 100% rotted out. A can of Krylon would have been a better moisture barrier than that stuff was.

I don't think the stuff was ever intended to sit directly on soil.. Even fence posts that are just planted in the post hole will rot out in a few years. The stuff is fine if used where it gets an opportunity to dry out. At one time it was a big thing to build basement walls (exterior) with PT lumber BUT they still applied a water barrier to the exterior surface.

If its something not connected to the house and I have no pt and ive a few days I just take a small paint brush and a gallon of old oil mixed with a pint of diesel and brush it on, over and over and let it keep soaking.

Yes, I knew because of it sitting on the ground that is wasn't going to last forever. It seemed like it rotted out faster than un-treated wood would have. It literally crumbled apart when I went to move it and these were 4x4 sized pieces. I bought the PT stuff thinking it would be at least a little more durable.

Careful with this stuff also as it stains your hands for a couple of days.
