Best Wax/Polish (for a black car) - 08/13/20 05:30 PM

Seems like Waxes and Polishes have improved quite a bit over the last few years and I am going to be buying some new supplies....so what it the latest, bestest product out there right now?

I was planning oh giving my black 2009 Challenger R/T a really good cleanup and wanted it looking its best...so what should I be using to achieve the best finish?

I have been using "Turtle Wax" "Jet Black" seemed to work pretty good...but I am all out and I bought that 6 or 7 years ago. Is there something better now?

Thanks,

Dave

Are you looking for best protection or for best gloss? They are usually 2 different products although many claim to do both the best.

My Cuda is garaged and is only driven occasionally. I use Maguire's Quik Detailer Mist and Wipe on it. It was the best readily available product I found to use on my Black GTX.

But I would not use Mist and Wipe on a daily driver. I would want something more durable, like a wax or sealer. Even at the expense of optimum gloss.

Yes its a driver so I was looking at a polish and then a good top coat to protect it and add shine...hiding a few scratches and marks would be great too.

I have owned exclusively black vehicles for the last 15 years. Without a shadow of a doubt, the best results I have ever achieved was with the Adams polish and wax system. Even when my cars are FILTHY, they have an incredible glow to them. As you will find out, its all about the pre wax prep.

I used the mothers synthetic clay (which is not a clay bar at all) and then started the correction and protection process after that.

You will spend near 2 full days doing this, but you will love the end results. If this ain't your bag and you just want to wash and wax, id still tell you for the value and shine go with Adams, or give chemical guys products a try. They are good too!

(Also, I can tell just buy looking at the pictures you attached, some parts of that great looking car of yours need to be polished)

I use that Mothers Speed Clay 2.0, also. I like it a bunch.

I have the original version, but yes, thats a great tool to have when used properly, and man I gotta tell you, it works as good as a clay bar and less waste. I love the fact you can use the one I have with a bucket of soapy water and the results are great, and its pretty affordable.

Paint will be very clean and smooth as a baby's bum

up so let's try it on a Mopar Hellcat and see what the owner thinks wink https://youtu.be/YTauq7So8KU

Thanks guys on the heads up on the Mothers Speed Clay 2.0 as I was about to clay bar my '85 E350 VAN and that's a whole lot of area. I think the Speed Clay 2.0 will save some time up and do a good enough job for what I hope for before polish and then wax. I'll report back.

I think I will also pick up some fresh standard clay bar to do those body line edges and hard to get to with the Speed Clay 2.0 pad areas.

Do polishes generally contain wax as well nowadays?

I really still like Nufinish liquid polish.

No. The products are different. Polishing is improving the clarity and waxing is protecting. If you like the way your rig looks after a wax job, when you spend the time to clean, polish, then wax, you'll be blown away. And people will continually comment on how nice you ride looks.
