'63 Impala in the shop

'63 Impala in the shop - 08/09/20 12:34 AM

My buddy (who used to own several Mopar project cars) now has a '63 Impala. He brought the car over to my shop so I could help with install a Holley Sniper. Also needed a new gas tank, new springs, some brake work and assorted other minor things. Cool looking car but glad I don't own one. The X frame design really sucks on these cars. It is a huge car but there is no space to work on anything because the frame is so big. But people love this car when he drives it around town.

It is an original Impala SS 327 four speed car that came from the factory with the Tuxedo black paint and the red bucket seat interior. So a fairly popular combo.

Good looking car.
Black with red interior is classy.
Those X-frames can really flex, and IIRC the front part of the exhaust routing is a pain.

That looks like a beauty. Those X-frames are really weak, marginal even back in the day.

Yeah I couldn't afford to own one of those cars since I'd lift the body off the frame and build a whole new frame with a different suspension. The guy who designed that frame didn't win any awards.

My parents bought a '63 4 door brand new in '63. It was black with red interior too.

Watch the old videos from the Byron Wheelstanding contests to see the old X chassis cars doing the rwist and shout.

Very nice.
My Grandpa had one of these, yellow over red ragtop.

Beautiful car!

My brother in law bought one new, white, 409 with two fours, four speed and 4.11 gears. He wishes he still had it, LOL. I like the 61-64 Impalas.

I don't need this kind of action. I'd settle for a 327 and a 4 speed.

My 61 bubbletop and 62 convert were beautiful cars. Would take either of them back in a heartbeat.

A friend has a 62 non ss Inpala his Dad bought new. He smoked out the original engine and took the trans and wrapped it up. Now with a stock appearing stroker racing with Ralph in the SUPERCAR series goes mid 12's on a skinny original size bias-ply tire.

I bought some parts in a storage locker auction and found out that most of it was Chivvy parts. frown I did find a envelope with a title to a 64 Impala though... laugh2

up The car in the video is a 63 shruggy And if that is the car you're referring to, I'm surprised they didn't make him pull the hubcaps, especially running mid 12"s. beer
