Corny as they come, but I really like seeing the older cars in the street scenes, and especially the '77/'78 Monaco A38's in the early seasons. I want one of those. Funny, in the later seasons, they had the R Bodies, and I guess for the lack of ability to smoke the tires with torque, they sure made up for it by going WOT to the scene and bam, lock up the brakes!!! I guess you get tire smoke one way or another lol.

Then of course, Heather Locklear came in sometime after the first season, and it got even easier to watch!!!

The classic "over-acting" and toupee of William Shatner is great to watch.
I like the 70s and 80s cop shows too. Many were shot in Southern CA where old cars were still in use as daily drivers. Remember "Hunter" ?

Yep, I remember Hunter too! He used to pursue cars by going up onto sidewalks in downtown areas lol. She was "Dee Dee McCall" I think.

Yes, bigtime overacting by the Shat lol. And the toup was awful! Came so far forward, it almost reached his eyebrows

Not a police officer, but a detective. My favorite of all time...but I am biased.

The one I like best is Adam12. Since it was filmed in 69-73? it has lots of musclecars in street scenes. The other day it had one about getting street racers off the street and on the track. It had a nice 70 Roadrunner, Camaro's, Mustang, and a 63-4 Polara. Brings back memories of the good 'ol days!

Me too.......that.one was of the best episodes titled "Who Won?"............................I guess also why I like Adam 12 is maybe because "Adam" is police jargon for the letter "A" if I'm not mistaken, making it A12 laugh2 grin

And my son and I watch Thomas J Hooker also and there are lots of old Mopars in every episode not only cop cars but the bad guys like to drive and crash them the most it seems. Watched a few pretty nice Mopars get smashed and wasted frown TJ wrecks at least one if not two Mopar cop cars per show........how the heck does he keep his job????? Also TJ solves EVERY case per show, arrests or takes out the bad guy(s) and still he's only a Sargent, you would think they would have promoted him in the four years and five seasons the show was on??? shruggy grin

I love Adam-12 too. I've seen that episode many times. I remember the '70 RR too! I think green? Dick Clark played the race track owner smile

Yes, tons of great city scenes with cool cars in lots of episodes up

Mannix was good too when he drove Mopars.

Speaking of Hunter.......

Anyone remember the episode where Hunter demands a 440 for his car to be able to catch someone because they're so fast? No detail shots, but I remember after the 'swap' the car sat a little higher, and every time he'd get on it, black smoke would come out the exhaust.

work shruggy

Funny. You're using logic to try to understand a TV show. I can appreciate that since I hear jokes about the durability of the General Lee at almost ever car show!

According to Wikipedia, he basically demoted himself............

The background of Sergeant Thomas Jefferson "T.J." Hooker is that he, up until recently, was a plainclothes LCPD Detective Sergeant whose partner was killed in the line of duty while he and Hooker were trying to stop a bank robbery. An angry Hooker becomes motivated to rid the streets of criminals like those who murdered his partner. Thus, he decides the only way to do so is return to his former position as a uniformed patrolman.

In reality, I imagine that there are Police workers that prefer the "beat work" rather than Detective or desk work.

CHIPS had an episode where a guy tried to outrun them in a Super Gas car stoldn from a dragstrip.

Those old shows are classics. We were watching old episodes of " Emergency " Cool they drive a Dodge truck but its pretty funny when at an accident scene the ambulance leaving the scene is a Ford and when it arrives at the hospital its a Chevy. I guess the film editing people aren't car people that would notice. I've seen it on other shows also.

Yep, Heather Locklear showed that "A woman in uniform" has a lot of appeal too.

I recall a scene in Emergency! as the guys are tooling along in their truck talking about something. Spotted a Daytona parked along a neighborhood street.

I always loved Rockford Files too. They always filmed on the streets and never in a back lot, which made it so much better!!! And who doesn't love a J turn?!

OMG, Rockfish was one of my all time favorites - he was SO fun to watch. And any episode with Angel Martin in it was a special treat.

Getting back to Shatner, he played a crooked cop in an old episode of Police Story (as I recall), & in this episode, he was driving a yellow 1970 Challenger R/T convertible. I met Shatner years ago - back in the early 80's, & I asked him about the car & the episode. He did not remember the car at all & had no interest in discussing. Anybody remember that particular show?

Also, I have a complete CD set of the original Hawaii Five-O - there were some good cars in there sometimes. In one episode, there appears a red 1970 Challenger R/T convertible a couple of times - just a background car driving. I recall it having white longitude stripes. What a sweet car. Oh, and Hawaii Five-O was hard to beat too..............

I get the impression that most actors see much of their work as mundane in the same way that I see mine and others see theirs.

Yep. I got to drive a LOT of BRAND NEW Kenworths around out manufacturing plant (never over about 30) and it was no big deal.

YES! Angel was great in The Rockford Files, and I loved his father, "Rocky". Such a likable character, and "Jim" was so hard on him sometimes, but their relationship was so good. Angel was such a weasel laugh

The Mod Squad was full of cool Mopars too.
