Identify the part Quiz. - 05/24/20 01:10 AM

A buddy asked if I could deliver a few parts to a guy at Mopars Invade MoKan next Saturday.

After looking at one of the parts I just had to share pics and figured some on here would appreciate it.

I thought it would be fun to see who would know what it is or what it's for. laugh2

Here's some pics.

I think I can adapt that carb to my Victor intake but I might have to get Thumper to put a fine tune on it first up

All the safety wire on it makes me think it is from an aircraft.

I had sort of thought it looked like that, but when you move the throttle lever the throttle blades (if you want to call them that) open just off the lever like a regular carb.

Hint, the plane would have required two of these. whistling

Re: Identify the part Quiz. - 05/24/20 03:14 AM

Very similar. I had a friend in the development of the predator, ended up good for tractor pulls mainly.
Is this a Chandler-Groves or Holley? I'm not familiar with all the variants, there were a couple guys restoring wwII birds that had some very similar on the bench.

OK, Here is my guess: Holley variable venturi carb off of a B-25 Bomber. Model 1685

I initially thought it was a jake brake, or governor of some sort, then realized it's the prototype of the very first self-powered card shuffler device......

We have a winner!

Not that there's actually any prize other than people seeing that you know some stuff about vintage war planes.

Tom told me that it's a carb off of a B-25 Bomber.

Good deal! My favorite twin is a B25. I am too young to have been around these the first time ( I am 38) but I LOVE WWII stuff. Thanks for the challenge!

We had a bonfire Friday night and had some people out for it.

That's when Tom brought it out, one of the other people that was here Bill M. "HrtBrkr" saw it and really wanted to buy it and Tom said that it's already sold to a buddy from Kansas.

I'm delivering it and a set of 426 Hemi valve covers to the guy since we'll both be at MoKan for Mopars Invade MoKan next Saturday.

I just had to share pics, I thought it was pretty cool.

The quality and engineering of the carb are amazing when you consider it's from the 1940's.
!940's car parts aren't even in the same category as the aviation stuff for quality from back then.

My favorite was the B-26, with the big props it looked like it was "hot rodded" to me.

Yes it was Jed Scott that I was delivering the B-25 carb, Hemi valve covers and boat motor mount brackets to.

When Tom dropped it off it that box was in another box and I didn't realize that it was still in the original Holley box.
That was cool too.
