Belvidere Mopar Happening show is cancelled - 05/03/20 01:16 AM

Well it gets worse, my favorite local show is cancelled for 2020. It is always the week after Carlisle, which is NOT cancelled and hopefully will be there for us this year. I am going to have a get together at my building in downtown Rockford on the weekend the Belvidere show was scheduled, I will let everyone know when I work out the details.

Not a surprise considering the Governor.
He doesn't want the state reopened even though the problem area for the virus is Chicago not the rest of the state.

I was just talking with Kayse saying that the Street Machine Nationals in DuQuoin IL will probably be canceled.

I’m very disappointed but at the same time not surprised. I foresee our governor competing with Michigan’s governor in a contest for last state in the country still locked down, so our whole show and cruise season is likely canceled. bawling
With many CMC members in NW Indiana and southeast Wisconsin, has there been any talk of trying to schedule a CMC show there this summer.
I remember seeing many cars in IL with Escape to Wisconsin bumper stickers when I was a kid! laugh2
Interesting thing I saw today, I went to Dekalb today and I took the “long way” home. While driving through the West Chicago/Bartlett area I spotted what looked like a car cruise or show going on in the parking lot of one of the many abandoned or mostly vacant strip malls that dot the Chicagoland landscape. It was 3:30 so I don’t know if it was winding down, and more cars had been there earlier, but looked like 50-75 cars when I drove by. Maybe we will get some “pick up” type shows here this year?

The problem with most big shows is the preparation for the show that has to take place a few months before the show happens.
That pre-show legwork has to take place at least 3 months ahead of time, and if the people putting it on can't get together in that pre-show time, they simply can't get all the details worked out to make the show work. There is a lot more to putting on a show then picking a date and showing up on the day of the event and expect it to work. With so many businesses not even working right now, it would be pretty hard to line up vendors for some parts of the show, and it my be impossible to even schedule things most people expect. Just imagine what it would be like to set up food vendors, with most restaurants not even open, and the ones that are open will have no idea what rules they will have to follow a month or two from now.
On top of all that, they still have to deal with all levels of Government, and then wonder how many people simply won't come because of health concerns, either real, or imagined. If only 1/2 of an expected participant and spectator count will be showing up, the odds for putting on a show next year are really damaged financially, and the show will take a hard hit by the people that did show up and expected a show like years past.
At this point in time, any large show normally scheduled before Sept faces serious problems pulling it off this year! Smaller shows might be OK, but not any big shows. Gene

Governor Fred Flintstone in Illinois is trying to bankrupt the entire state by refusing to open the economy.

Enough is enough already.......

Yes the biggest issues with large shows such as Belvidere is the volunteer and sponsor situation, the show cannot go on without those two important things. That is what shut this show and most large shows down for the summer, lack of sponsorship and people afraid to be around other people so they won't volunteer... frown

What was posted regarding the extensive pre-show prep is spot on. I put on a show in early July, nice little event, draws about 115 cars. Mixed makes, I get a fair share of exotics and full classics in the mix so it is a little different from most local shows. Anyway, I can't sign up sponsors (which pays the expenses) because the businesses are either closed or really hurting. I can't in clear conscious go asking for door prizes for the same reason. My awards are unique, and I can't get them made because that company remains closed. It takes over 10 volunteers to run the event and several are not comfortable interacting with a lot of people, so they have opted out. Then there is the question of participant turnout. I don't do this event for personal gain, the profit goes to support some local youth activities but I can't be losing money on this show. So...I pulled the plug, with the thought that perhaps the 1st Sunday in October will work. We'll see....

Yup. Him and his family can buy the entire state at the bankruptcy auction next year, since they’ve already got their name on half the museums, universities and hospitals in the Chicago area already.
See you all next year at the CMC show in July 2021 at the Boone County fairgrounds in Belvidere, Pritzker!
