Anyone else getting fat(er) since lockdown?

Anyone else getting fat(er) since lockdown? - 04/06/20 09:47 PM

Since I've been laid off and staying around the house more I started gaining weight and have developed soft clean hands already. Started questioning my own mortality and I'm having second thoughts about working on my Savoy in case something happens and it cant be driven.
So I'm not doing the re-wire and roll cage install until I know it's safe.
Anyone else putting extra pounds yet ?

People are eating because they are bored, not because they are hungry. Also, not enough people getting exercise. I'm not getting as much exercise as I would be if the gyms were open, but some of the people I train with have put up great at-home exercise routines, including some that are all body weight. I'm also doing shadow boxing and my regular cardio videos.

Lockdown? My schedule hasn't changed. If anything I'm getting busier with the warm weather.

Considering the grocery stores are out of just about everything I would say I am not gaining weight.

Re: Anyone else getting fat(er) since lockdown? - 04/06/20 11:35 PM

Just the opposite. I have lost 8 lbs. in the last 3 weeks. Anxiety caused by the pandemic has curbed my appetite. Plus, I am pacing my intake with the amount of groceries I have on hand. Why? Because my trip to the grocery store (every 2 weeks) makes me nervous....even though I am at the door when the Piggly Wiggly opens at 6:00 am. Another factor: I am no longer spending the weekends at the local breweries...haven't had a beer in 3 weeks.

3 weeks?!? I'm about a third into my 3rd 30 pack. laugh2 And I spent 5 hours driving yesterday to buy some liquor. So I stocked up! beer

The lock down hasn't changed my life much since I was pretty much at home all the time already. laugh2

I've actually lost a few pounds (5) but only because spring is now here and I can get outside and do some stuff around the house and garage.

I've actually lost a few pounds since this started. Stopped drinking coffee also. Not sure why on either count. But my hands have never been cleaner...

I read somewhere that you should try on some pants every so often because the pajamas you've been wearing give no indication of the weight that you may have gained.

I've lost weight, too. No eating out. Sleeping 'til noon and only eating a small lunch and then dinner.... or sometimes just dinner.

Ideal small batch moonshine still
is to buy one of the above,
take apart the coil in the top unit
and seal the tiny hole that allows “volatile vapors” to escape when tap water is distilled.

But my advice is to stop drinking entirely.

This really is a great time for people to work on fitness. If you are home, you likely have more free time. Get off of the couch and move. There are countless free workouts online. You don't need any equipment, though if you have some, use it. I did a 60 minute boxing workout last night...15 minutes of cardio, 8 three minute rounds of shadow boxing, 15 minutes of core-focused work at the end, and I was gassed. I usually do that workout at the boxing gym, using the heavy bag. Even without the bag, it was challenging. You guys can do it, and you won't regret it.

I can't do the cardio gig due to the blood pressure problems it would create. I still walk 3-5 miles every day. Now I can swing my metal detector a bit when it is'nt raining or cold out. I would like to lose about 15 pounds but don't see it happening. shruggy

Re: Anyone else getting fat(er) since lockdown? - 04/07/20 11:53 AM

Even if you can't do the cardio, walk every day, change your diet, and you can lose 15.

I'm still workin but I've lost a few pounds. Been bringing a lunch and not eating a lot of junk food or Pepsi. Dinner on the table when I get home every day cause the wife is home for now due to the work stoppage..

Healthy home cookin I guess has its advantages.

So basically doing 16:8 or even OMAD intermittent fasting.

(16:8 is 16 hours fasting, and eating everything within 8 an hour stretch, OMAD is one meal a day).

There are quite a few health benefits to eating like this, even if one isn't overweight. Plus if one is a bit overweight, it really helps the weight come off. To burn fat, it turns out that it helps if we have longer periods with no food in our gut.

This will sound harsh, but if that's the case, then you don't really want to lose weight. shruggy

I did cut back on junk food. I was at a bit over 200 and now about 195. Quitting smoking a few years back made food taste so much better! And a couple of my doctors actually complimented me on regaining most of my physical ability after what I went thru. up

I didn't drink a drop of alcohol for over 25 years. I've since learned to drink in moderation. One or two drinks or 3 or 4 beers are plenty for me and they are usually spread throughout a day, not at one sitting unless I'm having a cookout or something. I had help with the beer here, I didn't drink it all myself. laugh2

Lost 5 pounds since Sunday. Almost back to the weight I was at when I got out of the service in 94. I am one pound shy of my goal, I got up to 260 at one point after my bypass. I think I am going to drop my goal ten more pounds. If I make that goal I might drop it another 10 and get back to what I weighed when I met my wife. I will never get back to what I weighed when I graduated, 135, heck I grew six inches since then too.

Lost 11 pounds since January, but, they just closed the gym a couple of weeks ago. down

I have zero motivation to work out at home. I've tried it before and it just isn't the same. Better to be out in the yard cutting down trees, landscaping, and choring to stay in shape.

Nothing has changed here. I'm an Olympic lifter (ex-powerlifter) and coach, and have a fully stocked gym in my studio, with better equipment than any gym in town. Seriously, if i'd spent this much on my hotrod i'd actually be driving it. My only lifter and i train every day for hours and its actually nice to not get kicked out at closing time (our gym closes too early, and there is never enough time), not to mention listening to what WE want to hear, not the top-40/classic rock feces gyms play. Only reason i was in gyms in the first place is that i dont like to train alone... Unlike, it seems, EVERY other lifter out there... i actually like to have lots ov other people around. You dont find new lifters hiding out in your basement. The social issues aside, its been great.

I've made a small fortune selling off all my old unused gym equipment these last two weeks. More money than i've made in months. Sellers are just raping people out there... selling complete garbage for pro-equipment prices. Its disgusting. I priced my stuff at reasonable prices and its gone in hours. People are hurting to work out! Wish i could let more people in here to train with us. I've got enough for half a dozen lifters here.

The One Meal A Day (OMAD) diet is too extreme and not recommended for people with health issues other than excess weight. A much better alternative is "Time-Restricted Feeding". Quite a bit of research done down here in Alabama (UAB). With TRF, there are benefits other than weight loss. There is plenty of information about "Time-Restricted Feeding/Eating" on the on the web. Back in January of 2018, all of the major networks carried a story about it on their national news.

Nah forget that. I'm down 70lbs since last year. I'm pretty lazy so all I've done is lift weights 45 mins x 3 times per week plus managed my daily total intake of calories, carbs, protein. Used a calorie counter app for a few months until I got in the habit of staying within my parameters until it became habit. I've had to start eating a bit more than I'd like because at 155lbs/6' tall I don't want to get any thinner. Turns out building muscle to replace all that lost fat takes a lot longer!

Re: Anyone else getting fat(er) since lockdown? - 04/22/20 03:52 PM

Well I found that my initial gain was only that because after a few more weeks I'm heading back down under my regular weight. I think it must be not eating fast food and the Chinese buffet a few times a week. I also have not been drinking beer with my coworkers after a long day. I'm mostly on a protein diet playing with my smoker a few times a week since I have time on my hands.
