Hey Moderators, Question

Hey Moderators, Question - 04/04/20 06:30 AM

And I know all you opening this are NOT moderators.

I am the Admin on 3 forums and a Moderator on 1 Facebook page. I have been so busy deleting and BANNING spammers and BOT's.

Are you all having this issue here? If so you are doing a great job cus I don't see the trash much here.

Our SPAM filters catch a lot but some still get thru and before we catch it there are 6 posts about MENS ENHANCHMENT and such crap. I have a 'One Button' clean and ban so its not too bad.

Thanks for the great job, your earning that big check every week.

We've had a few spammers and weird new accounts lately, but nothing really noticeable.

With Facebook, do not allow members to add themselves or other members to add them.

I learned that early on.

If you look at each 'persons' page before letting them in, you can avoid a lot of spammers.

That won't always work if the Facebook user has 1/2 a brain.

Working internet security for years... I try to tell all the friends I have, NEVER post anything as public.
Many don't listen... or have 3000+ on their "friends list" whistling
It's just asking for trouble... especially if you ever join in on any of those "What's your fav..." lists.
Hackers love writing scripts to sift through info like that... (password questions)
So if people are smart...
The only thing you would see looking at their public page would be a few generic profile Pics.

It is nice scrolling on here without all the...
"Make big $$$$ from home in days", "Loose 50lbs in wks" & "4hr wood", posts every other comment. thumbs

As an admin with approval needed when people apply, I can see their posts on their page.

You can "SEE" Non-Public" Facebook posts???

Well there's the next gov inquiry.... and the 1st one I'd personally back 100%
That's a massive security risk to every FB user... IF every admin has full shielded access to everything on FB.
Any hacker can set up a legit page, just to score admin rights... and then go nuts rant

I said posts on their page.

If they are set to 'private' they do not get in.

I was talking about posts on their page.

Can't believe anyone would change a privacy setting to get in a group... eek
And I actually like that you try to reunite cars & parts/paperwork. thumbs
But people shouldn't give FB access to anyone they haven't personally met.. period.
That's just basic" personal security"... it's to easy to scrub FB info.
(Home address, education, workplace, e-mail, phone#, cell#, birth date, mothers maiden, kids & pets names, etc..)
Most of the info needed to hack accounts, or open new ones... including bank.

You're not going to abuse it...
But there are thousands out there who will, and no one at home can "Verify" the difference.

That is one reason why some people are not allowed into some groups.

Weed out the bad before they have access to normal people.

They are not all bad because they refuse to change a "FB" privacy setting...

Those with foreign IP's likely are... but many in the US are just being smart.
Or they have already had their identity stolen before... whistling

On just a forum for scooters I am able to look at all new members IP address's and the ones that are asking to join are all like from India, Pakastan or Russia. I know they ride more smaller bikes over there. But in the last week that forum had 15 from the same city. The first 3 were allowed in but started the spam posts so I blocked them. The next 12 had the same IP city.

But I got the answer I was looking for. You can delete this thread at your leisure. wink
