Happened to be listening to Grand Funk Railroad circa Caught In The Act last night.
I was too young to consider seeing these guys live at the height of their popularity but took advantage during the brief 'reunion' tour 1997-1998.
Actually scalped a spur of the moment ticket just before the show at The Variety Playhouse in Atlanta 1-18-98. I was old enough to know how lucky I was by that time

A good piece of music is a good piece of music regardless of "era." My personal music library includes everything from symphony, the blues, Miles Davis & Pat Metheny jazz all the way up to punk & metal. That way the music I choose can serve whatever mood I'm in.... Currently been focusing on stuff like Gene Vincent & Bo Diddley.

Just listened to the Shins' "Oh, Inverted World!" for the first time in 10 years or so. Used to listen to it a lot when it was newer.
Then had to show my wife Broken Bells.
But generally I have been listening to stuff on my Spotify weekly playlist, so they're algorithmic suggestions. Also been rediscovering some LPs from when I had a college radio show, so the latest was Creme Soda's "Tricky Zingers."

I was doing monitors on stage for newly formed Rossington & Collins band in Tallahassee back in the day, and Dale Krantz came over and gave me a big kiss during the concert, monitors were good that night, and a monitor engineer was either the hero or the villain during a concert, and it could change daily. That was a good night. Why she later married Rossington is beyond me.

The movie was on the other night and it hit home a little more than usual as after 40 years of being at each-others throats, my brother and I are starting to get along. Absolutely !! Nothing like standing down by the stage and looking up at very HOT Ann and Nancy Wilson, back in the day.
Missed out on Ruby Starr, she had already left Black Oak by then.
I was doing monitors on stage for newly formed Rossington & Collins band in Tallahassee back in the day, and Dale Krantz came over and gave me a big kiss during the concert, monitors were good that night, and a monitor engineer was either the hero or the villain during a concert, and it could change daily. That was a good night. Why she later married Rossington is beyond me.
Rossington and Collins made good music, just never went big like the original band.......
I guess I am a little weird, I can listen to Contemporary Christen, Darrell Evans as easy as Black Sabbath, Dio and Osbourne . I like most all music but those country crooners never really did much....
Who else was forced by the grandparents to watch Lawrence Welch?

March freakin 14th I was supposed to see Courtney Love do a benefit concert with her Hole bandmember the first time in 10 years at the small intimate Town Hall in New York City, she is probably top of my to-see bucket list. On March 7th the governor declared a state of emergency and the show was postponed indefinitely. So dang close!!!

I don't have Sirius/XM, but have had it complimentary when I had a new car. Deep Tracks (and Howard) are my go-to stations.
What's cool about Deep Tracks is that one of the deejays from my youth, on WMMR in Philly, is a deejay on Deep Tracks. Hearing the familiar voice of Earle Bailey is so awesome.

Last night I watched a You Tube video of Pink Floyd's 1990 concert in Berlin, Germany where they played the wall. I really like Pink Floyd so you know I would like it, but this concert was done shortly after the Berlin wall was taken down and the theatrics was amazing. The amount of people involved on and off stage to put this on was huge. One of the best concerts I've seen.

Not tonight but was up at 5:30 am and out in the yard cleaning up storm mess.
Turned on the Harmon Kardon and put on 180 gram Stone's Sticky Fingers. It does not have the working zipper like it did in the 70s but makes up for that with great remastered sound and clean highs and lows with no background noise or pops.
For small outdoor speaker's the InfInfinity sound great. Just an 8 inch Woofer and what ever tweeter thetg put.
They really crank.
Then Cars, Get the Knack, Black Sabbath. And noe for something completely different. Houses of the Holy.

I have been listening to a ton of Van Halen since the passing of Eddie last year. Can never get enough of his guitar riffs.. They have always been my favorite band. Even Wolfgang's new music/album is amazing work.

This and others as I just got home from seeing Halestorm and Evanescence live in concert in Camden NJ. I love a strong female voice so Evanescence is one of my top bands to see. This was my 3rd time seeing them but my first for Halestorm. I have always loved this song and they rocked it even better than this live (but my vid is too big to attach here) so here's the official vid. Hopefully with coming advances, they can make hearing aids that will work better for you.

Seems it going the other way, first set was super (79) the next three have gotten worse. The first set would cancel out the high noise, could hear rockers tic over open exhaust. The newest shuts down on any sharp noise. In susesion $950, $1500, $6500, used set for a week and turned back in for a better set by owner $3400. Protect your ears please!

Back in the mid 80s, I was still running the record store where we opened/played this for the first time.
We thought it was sooo cool…never imagined how huge it would become.
About 10-12 years ago I was doing a corporate gig in Calgary & the entertainment was a band whose whole deal was a tribute to this album & other African influenced pop like Juluka.
As great as the music on this album is, the production quality is amazing too. Music is simply not recorded this well anymore- there isn’t enough money in record sales to make the investment.

Some of you know Sheffield Labs recordings, they are direct to the cutting lathe with NO pauses from one cut or tune or recording to the next on each side. Sometimes you can hear the sheet music pages being turned between cuts as it keeps "recording" One time I heard something that was dropped like a drum stick but the cutter keeps on going. The dynamic range of the direct to disc recordings can really only be "felt" and heard when you play the vinyl album on a turntable. If you don't have a Sheffield Lab direct to disc or similar DTD vinyl record you should get one and hear the difference.........at least once

In 1967, the year Tull was formed, only a few rock bands memorably utilized a flute, but not as a lead instrument. One was the American band the Blues Project. The other two were both English: The Moody Blues and Family.
Did any of these bands inspire Anderson as a "not-very-good flutist?" In a word: no.
"What inspired me as a flute player was Eric Clapton, because it was his guitar playing I wanted to emulate," he said.

"Yes, Newport," Anderson said. "I don't know why they booked us and Led Zeppelin, which seemed weird. Our manager said: 'Roland Kirk wants to meet you.' I thought: 'Oh, god, what am I going to do?' Plus, Kirk was blind which made it even more difficult to confront him in a social setting. But he was really kind and nice. Or, at least, he pretended to approve of my rendition of his song because he was getting the mechanical royalties for it!
"Many years later, Kirk's second wife (Dorothea) showed up at one of our shows in New Jersey, long after he was dead. She said: 'Thanks. I get a (royalty) check twice a year for your performance of Roland's song and it's helped to have that coming in to help pay the bills."

By the 1980s he owned several salmon farms in Scotland. At their peak, they employed 400 people and — in 1997 alone —produced 900 tons of smoked salmon, with annual revenues of $26 million.
Commenting on his fish-fueled entrepreneurship in a 1988 Union-Tribune interview, Anderson said he would rather be remembered for providing hundreds of new jobs than for selling tens of millions of albums.
"I guess I'm a socialist at heart," he said at the time. "Actually, I'm a communist [censored] at heart, but I live in a capitalist world, so I try to be a good capitalist. My kids usually prefer to say: 'My daddy's a fish farmer.' It's easier to say that than: 'He plays in an old man's rock group with these fat, balding fellows!'"

By his count, Anderson has performed in 55 countries on at least five continents. He recalls first encountering Russian President Vladimir Putin at a 1992 Jethro Tull concert in St. Petersburg. At the time, former KGB agent Putin was the chairman of the city's External Relations Committee and an assistant to its mayor.

Earlier in his lifetime — 1969, to be exact — Anderson turned down an offer for Jethro Tull to perform at the now-legendary Woodstock festival, citing the fact that he didn't "like hippies." In the 1970s he sometimes berated concertgoers for smoking pot because the smoke impacted his singing and flute-playing.

The Golden Grass. If you like Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Robin Trower, The Groundhogs or just a fan of late 60's & early 70's hard rock, this is a great band to listen to. I just went to see them last week for the 2nd time & they are great live.

PBS now has a special they are using in their fund raisers about the rock/then Country group Exile.
I watched it last night, enjoyed it, and learned a lot.
When it was a cheap to hire band in 1973 I remember when they played a High School graduation dance, and in the hot stuffy gym then lead singer Jimmy Stokley peeled his T shirt off.
The strict Baptist Church goer who was Principle of that High School then cut the electric power to Exile’s instruments, declared the dance over, and ordered everyone to leave immediately.
