Dang, I was at two stores this am, the only two stores in the lil town of 3k I drove to.
One place I packed up a 12 pack of paper and my silly butt could of but didnt get any at the other.
To me people are goofy geeking out over butt wipe. No ones ever been in the military? No ones ever done any camping.
Maybe TMI but anyone with bags of clean polish rags, old clean socks, that can all be cut up and used and burned.
I dont flush anything down my stool paper wise, it all gets burnt, havent had to pump my tank in over 15 years. All kitchen sink water gets routed to my food compost box outside. (You would too if you seen how nasty it was).
I can see the book now, "The Fall of a Nation:No Where to Wipe"
So in Chicago, is it no more Dime Bags, just 1/4 rolls of butt wipe on street corners. Guys getting layed because there the ones with the "Paper"? Pimps sayin "Here [censored]" heres 3 squares of paper, now move on?
Crazy Times.

Step up if you can try "Brake Clean" "Carb Cleaner" Laq. thinner on a rag? Diesel Fuel on a rag? Maybe toss some floor dry up there and brush off when dry?
So many options, this is not an issue for us car guys.

That's why I never curse at junk mail...it's great to get the woodstove going, too. Back in the good old days, they'd use corn cobs, pine cones, leaves. There was a hole through the corner of the Old Farmer’s Almanac was so people would be able to hang it on a hook in their outhouses.

Some here may be to young to remember but one night Johnny Carson joked about a comming TP shortage.
Him doing so made one kinda.
Stores would be empty and as soom as they got some gone did not even hit the self.
At the time I worked in houses and every one had a,stock pile that I went to.
Almost same thing with New Coke. Piles of Old Coke. Sometimes whole rooms.

Local store has already refused returns on TP. One person wanted to return 20+ packages... 20...
Kids rears had been wiped with laundered cloths for 100+ years. Baby wipes... what were those when I was a toddler! Guess that's too difficult a task for the throw away crowd.

Call me OCD, but I've never been a fan of taking paper and wiping my butt with it after crapping. It's good for smearing it around I guess. I've always gotten in the shower, which as Guitar Jones mentioned is a foot away. This is some great conversation, btw
I think people see others buying up stuff, and figure it must be smart thing to do, and the panic is on. A bunch of sheep.

Wow, aren't you clever and witty! You really got me there.. Well, I'm quite regular. I don't eat at Taco Hell nor do I eat foods that send me running for the toilet. I wake up, go to bathroom take a shower. It's a daily routine. Of course, there's the occasional need other times. I didn't know we were discussing camping and road trips. I think the discussion was about your general practices during your normal routine. Yes, I leave the house. Do YOU take weekly camping expeditions and road trips? Ran into a friend of a friend this morning who works at WalMart. He told me they had an all-out fist fight in the TP aisle yesterday. Had to shut down a complete section of the store. They are also not going to accept returns on TP from the fools who bought hundreds of rolls. I did go to the grocery last night to stock up on beer. I have plenty of everything else all the time: food, water, cash, firewood, ammo...

all out here as well. my wife knows a lady the next town over that does taxes inside wal-mart. she said the other day, the kid was wheeling out a cart full of TP, and he got mobbed by the fools ! people were shoving, pushing, and climbing over each other to grab as much as they could.
we have lots of dirty shop rags, junk mail [full supply replenished daily, monday through saturday], old socks, old sheets and pillow cases, etc. just cut up the big items to a comfortable size, install a bucket with a lid in the throne room, wash when dirty, and re-use. just like a family with babies did in the good 'ol days. no diaper pins required this go around.

Be careful not to compare ending numbers to beginning numbers.
We know that covid is both much more contagious, and has a much higher mortality rate (H1N1 looks like its mortality rate was 0.02%, South Korea is at ~0.6% for covid with the best response so far, other places are much higher than that even).
H1N1 was only contagious for about a day before symptoms appeared, and a week afterwards. Covid appears to be contagious in people that never show any symptoms.
Is it worth fighting over TP about? Nope!
Is it worth shrugging off and ignoring? Nope!

I wouldn't normally bring TP from home to take to a restaurant, on a road trip, at work, and hopefully I don't need to take any with me every time I leave the house. I might have brought some from home if I were to go camping, but I don't do camping.
Tomorrow you wouldn't have to have restaurants on your list, the only ones open in our area will be the ones with a drive through. It could be a tough spring! Gene

By no one needed to be mentioned: "Am I off my rocker here ? What the heck ! THIS IS JUST CRAZY "
Since you asked, first yes, and NO.
You likely are under 60, in a lower risk group, in a area with delayed infection reports/deaths, have no close relatives over 60 and/or with underlying conditions, and maybe a risk taker ( don't wear your seat belt 100% of the time, don't get yearly flu shots, don't wear a helmet, grind without safety glasses, don't always wear sunscreen, etc WAG). Its a free country, take any risks you choose that don't effect others. However in this case, carefree attitude for your own safety can very much impact others significantly by transmitting a disease they prefer not to endure or possibly succumb to.
Have a little consideration for others who view it differently, its only a matter of weeks, if its gotten under control, and we can all move on.

Again, the past few weeks have been very instructive. If and when things get back to normal, I need to get serious about my preps. It's obvious society will sink into complete chaos and mayhem if anything REALLY bad happens.
People are crazy animals.
