Time to replace my group 27 and it looks like the vintage / antique battery market is still in limbo. Jim’s Batteries, Turbostart...Both look like they aren’t in production.

Has anybody bought one recently?

Are they still selling the battery “toppers”? Not what you are looking for but they do the job at a glance.

Yea...they do, but those are bit....cheesy. I may just put a modern battery in the car while I do the gutting of the case and odyssey 925 install.

But if there are true resto batteries available I’d rather just do that.

If your heart isn't set on buying a reproduction battery, this might work for you:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Mopar-Battery-S27M-red-1966-74-Caps-kit/312326370230?

This seller has kits for green, yellow and red caps, along with matching decals.

I have them on my cars....everything depends on battery you have, but the caps and the decals are very nice

Thanks for the idea. I just bought 2. I have used NAPA batteries and peel the stickers off....now you have a plain black battery !

As Mopar Action is fond of saying, "looks stock, cleans clocks."

THanks for the info. I was looking for a yellow cap battery, butthat looks decent. What current battery case looks close enough to the old Mopar ones?

I bought a Group 24 battery top cover, and a decal set that also included caps.
Taking the top cover with me and checking a couple places, the Autozone Duralast Group 24 battery ($139) had the best fit.
The Group 24 batteries I checked elsewhere were actually smaller, so the fake top hung over by a bit.
That figures: they were cheaper !

My restoration battery drops to 12.2 after a week just sitting on the workbench, because the PO let a cell get pretty dry.
I don't know how old it is, but my previous resto batteries (about 15 years ago) lasted about 5 years or so.
I figure it's better on this car to not have the battery venting underhood like the OEM style, now that paint work is so expensive.

I wish they would reproduce something similar to a "topper" but with sides as well. That way, it just slides over a modern battery, looks the part, but is a modern battery.

A battery is a consumable item and these OE appearing ones can't be bought at every corner store and certainly not for $100 or so. I know I wouldn't want to shell out $250-$300 for an OE appearing battery and only get a couple years out of it.

I decided to gut my case and install an odyssey pc925. The batt is on order from Amazon. I am first going to make sure the odyssey kicks over my 10.2 : 1 440 then I will proceed...

I lot of us wish we could just buy an empty resto case!

I also have the caps and stickers on order if I want to go that route....plan B.
