Gary Davis - Unlawl in the news tonight

Was watching the news in Detroit and heard Gary Davis' name mentioned. Cool story and can't believe it has been 16 years. Haven't been around for a long time but thought I would share.

I remember the night it happened. We get some detroit channels and TV was on one in the background after watching something else and I heard his name. Hard to believe it was that long ago.

I'll never forget when we were at Norwalk, and Gary threw a powdered sugar donut about 30 feet in the air and caught it in his mouth.

Still have his magnet on the cabinet in my shop, and think about him regularly. Miss our Metro Detroit get-togethers that he was a catalyst for...lunch at the coney on Opdyke in Auburn Hills, get togethers at his house....good times.

RIP Gary. Went to the visitation in my old Charger Rallye. Wow - I also can't believe 16 years has gone by!

I heard the story on the radio during my drive to work on Friday. Brought back the memory of hearing about his death on my drive to work 14 years ago.
I think about Gary whenever I look at the deck lid I bought off him after one of the local swap meets.
I actually saw one of the "180" window stickers on a car not too long ago.

So what became of the DUI driver responsible for Gary's passing?

Still on my wagon....... Never met the man, but between his posts here, and a few PM's we exchanged, he made a lasting impression on me.

I also still have the video of his funeral that was made.

Dang.

For me I really don't want to know as the whole thing was a sad, sad situation all around.......I think the DUI was a young just graduating firefighter going home from a graduation party. I could be wrong but that's what I remember reading about at the time. My, at the time, 8-year old son Christopher and I spent the previous September at the Norwalk Chrysler Classic hanging out with Gary and Dart Girl and Gary took a photo of Christopher and I in front of the Moparts banner. I pull the photos up every May and smile and say a little prayer for both of them. Christopher remembers everything about that day, as I do, being one of the best days ever. Dart Girl let Christopher "drive" the Daytona Charger over to see Gary and take a photo as he sat on the wing. Later Chris and I went back pit side to hangout with Gary for a couple of hours before we headed home. RIP Gary and Dart Girl two good people gone but never forgotten by us.

To each their own, but IMO deterrence is often supported by accountability, and that accountability in this case is unknown, so I asked.

I remember Gary here and always liked him, saw his Challenger and still remember it to this day. I always remember that sad night people here shared the news.

Glad to hear that Gary's memory is still alive and well at that police station and here as well. He was a wonderful guy and I am glad one of our forums still bears his name. Can't believe it's been that long since he left.
