Re: How automatics work - 02/14/20 08:46 AM

I was wrenching a 4 speed Dart for a guy many years ago when he told me to make a pass with the car so I did. He then told me to make another pass in the car, so I did. He looked at the identical ET's from both time slips, looked at me, looked back at the time slips and said to me, "you drive the car." laugh2
I've raced and won many times with a stick car.

that pic is inaccurate since the transmission is not hovering above a lake of atf.

Inaccurate because the "power loss" arrow should say "multiplies torque".

Sorry, I didn't realize that humorous memes were supposed to be scientifically accurate whistling

Actually BOTH are true. Yes, the converter initially multiplies torque. But it consumes power in doing so.
Power = torque * rpm...

Problem is humor, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. Some folks not only believe the OP but it has become a mantra of sorts.

How about this: you build and drive what you like, I'll build and drive what I like.

Nothing kills a joke faster than explaining it to someone without a functioning sense of humor.

Nothing kills a joke faster than being a bad joke.
