If the quality of service increases, the amount of rework is decreased, and shrink is reduced, it is possible that the consumer won't see anything on their bill. You get what you pay for, especially when hiring employees. That's why service at Chick-fil-A and In and Out is always leaps and bounds above the norm.

Also, per the article, as of Jan 1, "all of its company employees "can become eligible to receive" at least 24 hours of paid sick time per calendar year." It just keeps getting better; a whole 3 days off, madness.

On a related note, I would think regulators would mandate that food workers have mandatory paid sick time. My Fiancé used to work for a food prep company, I will not say which one, and, her and her co-workers would go to work and handle food on their death beds. They had mouths to feed and bills to pay like the rest of us so; they could not afford to stay home. The industry pretty much forces people to handle and potentially contaminate food that others consume; they could kill someone. This has just never made sense to me.

Had Taco Bell once here in New Jersey, had the runs for a day and a half.
I will never eat that garbage again.

Nobody should work unqualified in their line of work.
Being sick in the food service industry in my world makes one unqualified.
Nobody should be paid not to work.
If employees were paid adequately in the first place for working, three things are possible:
a. They would be able to afford to take care of their health and lead a healthy lifestyle
b. They would be financially rewarded to show up for work
c. They would have to find another job because of missed work from being sick

I knew about In and Out paying all of their employees a lot better than the other burger joints in SO CA back in the early 1990s, the manager at the Barstow store was making $130,000.00 a year and all of the employees where making at least $1.00 above minimum wage to start with, they would get regular raises as they got better on that job up
There was very little turn over due to employees quitting to get a better job work
I learned later that Burger King company stores paid way above the franchise stores paid, I knew a kid who wife was the manager at the Barstow, CA company store at the same time as the In and Out manager was getting $130,00.00 per year, she was making around $85,000.00 a year according to her husband. work
I was making less than either one of them at the same time as a 1st level supervisor in customer services for the local telephone company blush
Sometimes it pays well to work hard, no matter where you work at up

My nephew manages a Taco Bell, he is at $50,000 yearly salary plus monthly bonus. It's crap hours and days off but if you like to work it's not bad.

I'm sending him the link it will give him laugh.

It's all garbage. I quit eating the trash. Give it up for a while, then go back and try it once your taste buds adjust to real food. Bleech. Crap would give me raging heartburn. Fat, calories and chemicals are off the charts. Read the ingredients on any of it. Last time I went to Wendy's, $8 for a chicken sandwich and small fry. I left hungry.

35 years ago, I ate Whoppers and fries 'till they came out my ears. Can't do it now.

Add 430 calories and 19g of fat for fries? I don't hate myself that much.

The employer/employee relationship needs to be a balance. It's a lot easier to see when you have been on both sides of the coin, I have. An employer can't just pay an unlimited number of sick days (I have a guy who takes a day off at least once a week because he had a cough), I had another tell me he was 600 miles away taking care of his grandma when I ran into him at wal mart. Also (especially a food buisness) can't expect an employee to just work through it all the time. Maybe if your the type who needs a day off every week for a cough you should not work in the food industry. Also you can't pay all the employees $100K and still sell cheap tacos.
