charger weight vs rr/bee - 10/28/11 09:30 PM

All things being equal, how much more does a 68/70 charger weight over a 68/70 rr or bee. No real reasoning behind the question, it was just something I was always curious about.

No offense, but I'd take all those published weights with a grain of salt. The only accurate way to tell would be to weigh two empty shells or two IDENTICALLY equipped cars....both with the same amount of gas, oil and windshield washer fluid!

They must be much heavier because they were a lot slower!

Thanks Mike! They were probably only slightly heavier but couldn't be much different than a Bee or a Bird? I was kind of kidding but back in the day, I didn't run into too many Chargers who were interested in running. There was a Y4 R/T 440 with headers and ladder bars but he would never run anyone because he wanted to remain undefeated. If you don't race you can say you've never been beat! He was a nice guy and his car was beautiful. He just didn't want to hurt it or take a chance of getting caught. I did run a 68 Hemi Charger that had one of those overdrive units on it. He still can't believe that he was beat like that by a 383 Road Runner. I think those were the only two Chargers I ever ran into and I was on the street looking for runs every night in 1970 thru 72!

Funny the GTX owners were not into racing you either just like the Charger owners......maybe they were too conservative or something.....you know the bowl of goldfish on the front seat excuse Every road runner or super bee owner along with every Chevelle owner would light them up in a heart beat if they had the chance or thought they could coax you into it What provoked a race; two of anything and one of them being a road runner or super bee

Road Runners, Bees, Chevelles, Novas, Camaros, Torinos, Mustangs, lots of GTO's but not too many Chargers or GTX's?

None taken... you are absolutely correct! I think Chrysler realized that too because of their wording "approximate" and "estimated" in the books. I just thought it might be useful to the poster for comparison purposes. I imagine that a/c, power windows, cruise etc would add on several hundred pounds to a base car. The a/c compressor can feel like 500 lbs when bent over the car trying to remove it.

I thought it does weigh 500 lbs

Had any of you run into me in my Charger, I would have flat put it on you. My 4-spd R/T had the 3.54 swapped out for a 3.91 prior to my purchasing it. I added the infamous Ch4b aluminum intake and like an idiot removed the Hemi mufflers for a set of Sonic Turbos. Swapped the 14" slots for 15" Centerlines and was ready for action!

However I didn't like running other Mopars, it was like beating up your little brother or something. I sure liked picking on Chevy's though.
