Re: Jack's vs Dante's vs Herb's vs Jim's?????? - 09/29/11 03:32 AM

I've gotten things off of Ebay, from Tony's parts, Herb's and Dante. I havn't had a bad experience from any of them.

Re: Jack's vs Dante's vs Herb's vs Jim's?????? - 09/29/11 06:14 AM

Should be allowed to vote for more than one, there's only one on there I wouldn't buy from...and I think the poll will tell that for me

I've been to Tony's place and had a great time a few years ago when I went to pick up some glass for my road runner and just this past Spring I met Dante at his house to pick up some things for the GTX. You couldn't meet any better Mopar guys and there's others on that list above so how can you only be allowed one choice and then my local Advance Auto team (men and woman BTW) that have the Friday night cruise (and donate the collection and 50/50 to kids charity is not on the list and.......

If you're in the Mopar hobby you can't single out just one of those on the list they all support us and do a darn good job

Re: Jack's vs Dante's vs Herb's vs Jim's?????? - 09/29/11 03:05 PM

i think this really depends on whether or not you are looking for NOS or repro. i am big with finding NOS parts so dantes is out, herbs is out, jack yes, tony sometimes for really good used parts. Ebay has been really good with NOS finds and JIMS IS A DISGRACE TO THE MOPAR COMMUNITY AND THE ABSOLUTE WORST TO DEAL WITH!!!!!!!
Posted By: 1970GTX

Re: Jack's vs Dante's vs Herb's vs Jim's?????? - 09/29/11 03:16 PM

I would buy from any of the above listed, except Jim's. I'm tempted to try, but afraid of getting screwed.
Posted By: Sssnake383

Re: Jack's vs Dante's vs Herb's vs Jim's?????? - 09/29/11 03:20 PM

Really the answer depends on for what kind of parts you're looking? NOS? Good, used? New soft parts?

Here are my recommendations out of those listed:

Dante is the class of the industry and if you need anything Legendary, he's your guy. As stated, honesty and unsurpassed customer service from just an all-around nice person.

Tony's Parts is great for nearly impossible to find clean used parts, some NOS, and Mopar tech information, knowledgeable customer service, and a history of trustworthiness and honesty . You call his phone number, and Tony answers the phone. Try that with some "other" suppliers! Another credit to the hobby and his industry, Tony is an all-around amicable guy.

Jack's Auto Parts is another good supplier - especially for new and repro parts. I used them countless times when I was pouring money into my Road Runner. Reasonable prices and a wealth of Mopar knowledge make him a can't miss guy. Use the Year One catalog to look up the parts you need and then call them up.

Re: Jack's vs Dante's vs Herb's vs Jim's?????? - 09/29/11 03:23 PM

Dante is among my favorites. I have bought from Herb's and had good service. Regarding Jack's and Jim's, here is a little Moparts Math Facts someone posted that may be helpful.

Jack=4 letters=GOOD
Jim=3 letters=BAD

Jim Filmore and Jules the Wiperman are great also though they aren't on your list.

Re: Jack's vs Dante's vs Herb's vs Jim's?????? - 09/29/11 03:54 PM

Basically, I have used all but Jim's. You are going to have to as well since none have everything you will need. I look at all of them before I buy. I also have bought from Hoover in Idaho. It all depends on who has it, how far away are they and when do I need it. If any of them were here in town, I would go there first.

Re: Jack's vs Dante's vs Herb's vs Jim's?????? - 09/29/11 04:21 PM

I hate to say this out loud but how about Year One.

I used to think that Year One was the big guy on the block and only really rich guys ordered from them. Since I have started putting my 'Cuda back together, they have been very competitively priced. They have a no question return policy and their catalog is worth the 10 bucks alone for all the detailed information, reference pictures, and drawings. Their web site has wish lists to help organize your parts and makes suggestions for related parts. They still may not be the cheapest on the block, but they have enough going for them that they do warent a call out.

another vote for Dante's. I have ordered many things from him and always had a great experience. Fast, reliable, honest and good prices.

I have to say... the Year One website is an absolute piece of cat poo. You can't find anything and I actually never ordered from them because the website is so impossible to use. I do have one of their wire looms and it is a very nice top quality part.

A good vendor list can be found just by clicking on the moparts sponsor list.

As someone noted, it really depends on what you're buying. I use Summit for engine stuff mostly because I usually get it the next day (they ship from Nevada) and their shipping is reasonable. For mopar specific stuff:

Megaparts
Herbs
Year One (AMAZING return policy, always buy with discount)
BEA
Dixie
ECS
A&M

We offer restoration services of starters and alternators in conjunction with Jim Ridge.

If I may offer some advice to readers here, always understand the return policy of any vendor you purchase from - don't assume anything. Try and pay with a credit card. You will have charge back rights if needed.

Should give everyone who's paying attention a big clue about who makes customer satisfaction a high priority... being a customer I want customers happy too... But I also understand using my credit card costs the man I'm buying from between 1.5 & 3% so if I'm confident in who I'm buying from I prefer not to use my credit card... I'd rather another car guy get my $$$ rather than another bank...

I was real excited when I received my order from Dantes today and noticed they used scraps of carpet as packaging material. There was one strip that was in perfect condition and was a perfect match to the bottom of my door panels. The carpet on my panels are in rough shape and now I have enough to replace them!!!!

I kinda feel like I should pay for it!!

Great people to deal with. I really like that they show up at the MOPAR shows and support them. Talked with them at INDY, all were very nice to talk to.

I've been getting most stuff from eBay though. Can find package deals with free shipping. I will have to order my RoadRunners interior from Dante though as I need all blue stuff and everything I need on eBay is black only.

We REALLY need to have a "Member recommended vendors" sticky.

A list, not necessarily in any order, of vendors who are great for restoration, NOS, repro, etc.

It would have really helped me when I started restoring my car 2.5 years ago.

Maybe have a tips section on ordering parts and parts to avoid but maybe that would be too long.

Most times I find the stuff I need the cheapest on ebay. I also buy body panels from rockauto. They have super low shipping compared to most. I had 2 full length front floor pans for my challenger shipped to me for 10 bucks!

For interior stuff, always Dante's. I never used any of the rest except Jims once, only one who had the part I needed on their website at the time. 3 days later it arrived.

Herbs rarely checks their email from my experience. When you call, you usually get an answering machine and a call back "maybe" the next day. Dante's has always been great with getting back to me. Had one issue years ago where I feel I was bait and switched on a vinyl top from him but I installed the top anyway. It's on the car and looks good. Advertised as a legendary top but dropshipped from Key vinyl tops.

Year One isn't any better. I ordered the dash wiring harness for my car in the middle of June. At the time they said 1-4 weeks. Called and checked on it in the middle of August (8 weeks later). They said it would be the middle of Sept. and they would send me an email when it would ship. Well, it's the last day of Sept. and still no email. Will be calling them tomorrow and seeing "how much longer"? This is the 2nd time they've done this to me and the last. I'll never order another part from YO. Oh yeah, my card got charged the minute I ordered the part, so they've had my money for 3-1/2 months now. The kicker is, the guy on the phone told me I was "lucky" I ordered when I did, because the wait is even longer now. Why don't I feel "lucky"??? What good does a 30% off discount do you when they can't get you the part you need...

I am in need of a replacement engine harness right now for my 67 RT. I had decided on purchasing a harness from YO since i had some other parts I was ordering from them. I called today and talked with a rep to place my order. As soon as I said I needed a harness he started chuckling and said "well thats gonna be a long backorder item." He told me a minimum of 8-12 weeks. He said M&H was changing over their tooling to a more automated process and for the last year and a half they have been behind production because of all the changes. He said that he had some customer orders from late January that just shipped in the past 2 weeks to customer!!!!

Maybe have a tips section on ordering parts and parts to avoid but maybe that would be too long.

Maybe a list of Moparts members you would/would not recommend buying from, too. I can start the "would not" list.

Re: Jack's vs Dante's vs Herb's vs Jim's?????? - 10/15/15 04:40 AM

Having online ordering process is a HUGE help for me when I look for parts. I have a "more than fulltime" kinda of job and so when I look for parts, it is usually late at night. I have not bought from companies just because they didnt offer online ordering. I kept searching until I found what I needed on a website that allowed online orders.

[size:11pt]Don't waste your time with Herb's. Not very pleasant to deal with in my experience......Dante's usually treats you right....

Mega Parts is the best if they have what you need.

Being right smack dab in the middle of the country, I really miss Hardens also. It's just not the same since Classic Industries bought them out. Dante's, Herb's and Dixie Parts have mostly been my go to guys. twocents

Re: Jack's vs Dante's vs Herb's vs Jim's?????? - 08/10/16 06:46 PM

Dante's. If I can get it there, I do. Great customer support. They run their business well at all levels. Had an issue one time.... with some parts I got, called and let them know the situation. Without a hassle, they shipped me another set of what I needed with zero red tape. Made me a believer. There are a number of suppliers out there. Sometimes it seems only one or two has the part you need but anymore, most all suppliers seem to have similar parts. With that being the case it simply comes down to who treats you the best when going to a supplier. Customer service is the defining factor for return customers ... for me anyway.

Anyone know if Jack's Auto Parts is still in business? They never answer their phone and there website still shows their 2011 catalogue.

I'm thinking this was more of a poll of the enthusiast/down home/mom and pop vendors (for lack of a better term) at the time (see date of original OP's post)? Not so much the hugh "big box" sellers with maybe "call center" type customer service (no offence intended to some of you big guys with good, knowledgeable staff)if you need to call with a question. I've been able to talk with most of the listed vendors at national and local events and even stopped by Dante's and Tony's homes and had a great time, I doubt I could do that with Laysons, Classic Industries or Year One.....but maybe I could if I get an invitation sometime soon. biggrin wink

MrMoparts is a two man band

I deliberately left him out because I thought that might be the case...........on the other hand he's out of AZ and may not have been well known to the OP back in 2011 and he only got into the Mopar restoration business in 2005 according to his "about us":

About Us

MrMoparts began from a love of cars back in 1988. In the beginning with a 600 square feet of space we thought we had it all. After two more moves to bigger locations and a fantastic start in the manufacturing of parts we closed over retail location in 2000 and concentrated on the manufacturing end of the business. In 2005, after great succes in the GM and Ford market we dove into the Mopar market and started MrMoparts. We continue to manufacture GM, Ford and now Mopar parts for the restoration marketplace. In addition to the manufacturing and MrMoparts has grown to become one of the leaders in restoration parts. With the addition of our semi trailer that we bring to the show, we know you will find everything you need to complete your restoration.

Not to get into a spitting contest but why the upset over a 5-year old post and poll? Spring is just around the corner.

Re: Jack's vs Dante's vs Herb's vs Jim's?????? - 02/10/17 02:39 PM

Here's the deal: I'm not familiar with most of the vendors included in your poll. Being from Canada, I started off going directly to Year One back in the late 80's and after my wallet grew thin with shipping using UPS and carrier charges, I discovered "the internet" and eBay. It is quite possible that I have bought from every vendor listed in the poll if they were using eBay. Why wouldn't they? But even if they did and still do, I'd have to say eBay because I always do a Google search for the restoration item that I want to buy. 95% of the time the search begins with an eBay auction. after that, you get the vendors or persons with the item for sale. Most of the time I don't pay attention to who they are. Just their feedback rating. My 2 cents.

Re: Jack's vs Dante's vs Herb's vs Jim's?????? - 02/10/17 07:55 PM

Similar story as Helbing, I'm from Canada and back in the mid-late 80's I would still go to the dealership for some items, Year One got a lot of my money and I still have the Rallye rims I bought at MCO Motor City Originals, even used to get a printed list of parts mailed to me from Brad's NOS.

Magazine subscriptions and the forums have lead me to various vendors and I now directly buy from Mega Parts, Dante's, Bill Rolick, etc.
